Background: I was discharged from Chapter 13 in September 2025. Day of discharge I was approved for CO VentureOne. $4K limit, so I took it. A week or so later, got a Credit Karma "good" chance of approval for DiscoverIT. $6K approval. Then this week, to my surprise, my mortgage reported "current" on all of the bureaus, and erased all of the BK info from their reporting. My scores shot up from about 650-670 to 710-725 (depending on the bureau). I burned Amex in BK for about $10K, but I had heard others had gotten back in 61 months from filing. Logged into CK and saw a "good" chance of approval for the Delta Gold Amex. Figured it wouldn't hurt to try and to my complete shock, approved for $1K SL. Not concerned with the limit because I just wanted back in.
Question: Immediately the Gold card was listed in my "Expand Your Relationship" section so I figured again, already got a HP from the Delta, why not?! Denied. Not crushed because I'm back in. However, my ultimate goal is to get the Platinum card back. How long should I wait to apply for the Platinum? I plan to use the Delta card liberally to get a pattern established ($1K limit is easy to payoff every month in my situation). What other advice may people in a similar situation provide to get back to the Platinum?

R - Back in with Amex after Chp 13; but would like Platinum card again.
Congratulations! Getting back in is awesome! I burned them for nearly $15K back in March 2021, and I definitely miss my Delta Amex. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance like you to get back in after 61 months, though I do wonder if Chapter 13 filers have a smoother path back in compared to those of us who filed Chapter 7.
As for your question, I’d recommend waiting closer to 12 months before applying for another Amex card. Six months can work for some, but since you’re freshly back in after a bankruptcy, giving it a full year of consistent use and on-time payments will build stronger internal trust with Amex and improve your odds for the Platinum approval.
I agree with @Waldemar 1K is barely getting in with them .
Use your card wisely and then wait atleast 6 months, but 12 is probably more ideal
Time is your best friend. It may take a while for that $1k to grow too. I got my BCP 62 months after filing a BK7, and while I was fortunate to get a $5k SL, it took me just over 2yrs to get a CLI.

You have scores north of 720 after filing Ch 13 merely 2 months ago? I should consider this... Despite my best efforts, American Express has been entirely unwilling to work with me for many years - I'm astounded you got in so easily.

They key to the high scores is my mortgage reporting and essentially reporting that I've never missed a payment in the 10 years I've had it. Technically I guess I never did miss a payment, but it was included in the bankruptcy. No clue why Amex let me back in.

I filed Chapter 7 and was discharged in May 2018. I burned AMEX on a BCE card for about $4k. I got back in the the Delta Gold this year (didn;t try sooner) and was approved for a $2k SL. I am right around 90 days now and will wait a couple of weeks to see about a CLI. The worst is they say no. You can get back in though I should add I may have had an easier path because in the interim I had a corporate AMEX charge card through my employer I meticulously managed through my expense account which may have helped.
That’s really encouraging to hear, honestly, all I need right now is to get back in with just the Delta Gold. I really miss having it, especially since I hate paying for luggage. I wouldn’t mind getting the Platinum again later on too, because I definitely used those perks.
I had a total of 5 Amex cards before my BK and I almost moved the balances around prior to filing, but I didn’t want to raise any red flags, so I ended up burning them for close to $15k.
I always wonder, do you think calling a particular department at Amex would help make sure any internal flags don’t stay on my profile forever, or would that pretty much be a waste of time?

From what I hear and know about AMEX calling would be a waste of time. If they have blacklisted you they have done it and they won't budge. Take your time and do it slow and steady to earn their trust back.

I realized I might have misread your post, in that "discharge" from Ch 13 means you reached the end of your payment agreement - with presumably some agreed upon amount discharged? Either way, sounds like I have a lot more research to do...and even more lottery tickets to buy. ![]()
I am pretty much in the same situation as Waldemar - seeking approvals on Delta and Platinum, for benefits you outline. In my experience, calls go overseas and are answered by script-readers with no authority or real information. I recently started some email campaigns of which have also gone unanswered, so far. I can't figure it out - people all over these forums boast over getting in after doing FAR worse damage... I went so far as to pay them back the $1.4K I included in Ch 7 which got me off the blacklist (denials no longer cite "cancelled accounts" as the reason), but no further recourse.
