Barclay Recon FAILURE

I tried my luck today and apped for a Barclays card.  My scores are 702-TU, 671-EQ and 650-EX. I got the 7-10 day message and immediately called to recon.  The analyst wasn't having it. She asked me a few questions about things on my credit report i.e. why I have 2 bankruptcies reporting.  I told her that I originally filed a CH13 but later converted it to a CH 7 due to a divorce.  I also noted that I'm working to reestablish my credit by getting 2 Capital One cards back in October 2014 and a subsequent car loan through Capital One in December 2014. Also, I opened a Fingerhut card this month with a $500 limit and I have Student Loans reporting all in good standing. She still didn't seem to be impressed and said they liked to see some time between a bankruptcy and extension of credit. My bankruptcy was supposed to discharge in December but because of an inept attorney, it didn't discharge until January 2015. I have cleaned up my reports as much as I can but no other card will give me a chance. I can't even get Capital One to increase my limit with scores like these. I am in the credit steps program but having a $300 credit limit sucks. I have opted-in and still can't get any pop-ups for the shopping cart trick.  I'm at my wit's end trying to re-establish my credit and don't know what else to do.

Re: Barclay Recon FAILURE

Since your bankruptcy all of your cards are fairly new.  Barclays like to see 6 months of positive tradelines after bankruptcy.  I would not give up, this rebuilding process takes time and work.  Coming out of bk I had small limits as well.  There is life, just keep moving in the right direction.  What website did you obtain your scores from?  Most sites are FAKO scores and these are not the scores the lenders see.  Although this question should of been placed in the rebuilding section of this forum.  Moderators can we get this moved there please.

Thank you for the wealth of knowledge I have learned from these forums. I am logging off as of November 9, 2022. I wish everyone great success.

Re: Barclay Recon FAILURE

Cap One approved me for a 500 limit QS, requested a CLI no dice. Cancelled the card only a week after receiving it, their loss. Sorry for the Barclays denial, they can be very strict. Was denied their Arrival card with only 3 TU INQs showing 720+ score and a current Apple rewards card member, still didn't matter.

Re: Barclay Recon FAILURE

@JTC403 yes I have a 702 with the bankruptcy reporting. Prior to the bankruptcy, my scores were high 700's to low 800. I worked to clean up my reports prior to the bankruptcy being discharged. Everything that should say IIB is reporting correctly and the new mix of credit that I've added has really boosted my scores. I pay everything on time and keep my credit card usage at 1-5% monthly unless I PIF.

Re: Barclay Recon FAILURE

With a Jan 2015 discharge you are just going to have to give it time.  I know i can be hard being patient, deep breaths.

Re: Barclay Recon FAILURE

I can attest to Barclays wanting to see 6 months of history with another first before they issue you one, case in point.....

My BK7 discharged 08/2013...had a secured Visa at the time, and then got Cap one and NFCU in 10/2013.

In Novemeber 2013, I applied to Barclays for the rewards MC....denied. Called in on recon, lady said I was doing great rebuilding, but they wanted "at least" 6 months of history first, and to try back.

Disappointed, I plugged along, statement after statement with a 1% util reporting on one card only.....after i had 6 months reported to the CRA, I reapplied in March 2014...instant approval online.

Now, a yr later..my CL has tripled, and I was approved for Sallie Mae instantly last week.

Don't give up...dont get upset, just keep plugging along, and it will happen. Funny thing is, a year ago, I had people telling me the same thing, and Ive rebuilt completely from my BK7...better than before I even filed, and now Im giving the advice...weird how the table has turned lol>Smiley Happy
