Barclay THREE RING CIRCUS anyone?

I would like your thoughts on this Barclay Ring "Circus Ring" application process:

Applied for Barclay Ring on 4/1/16.  Got message saying call them they need more info. Asked 50 questions then requested I send in copies of DL, SS card and UT bill. Went back online and check application status and it showed unable to issue you a card and will send you a letter stating why.  Ok whatever, so I called them and asked why do you need my information if you have already denied me? They said I wasn't denied as the application status said.  Go figure.  Then I got an email saying they are reviewing the info in the application and would contact me within 10 days if they need more information (this is after they asked for the identify items earlier).  So I send the info on Monday, 4/4 priority mail for delivery on 4/6.  I tracked it and it was delivered on 4/6.  I hear nothing so I call on 4/8 and was told they did not have the info.  App status still shows denied when I check online.  I call back on 4/10 and the rep says they don't have the info, give it a few more days.  I say ok, thanks. Yesterday I receive a letter asking for a utility bill or bank statement  to solely verify your address to give your app further consideration.  I already sent a DL and a UT bill that shows the same address used in the app.  All the documents sent were notarized (although they didn't ask for them to be notarized).  The letter said we look forward to hearing from you to complete the processing of your application.  So today, I send another notarized UT bill and  a bank card letter from the bank that is showing on TU credit report which they pulled showing the credit card that was issued with the APR and the CL. I also sent copy of the tracking info and USPS receipt for the initial identity info I sent that they have not acknowledged. I thanked them for considering  or re-considering the application in the info I sent the seond time.

With all this said do you think they are really considering the application or has it been denied as the application status reports?  I've been jumping thru hoops (3 ring circus) and I can't figure out what they are doing.  I am also very concerned where the personal info I already sent is in that it contained copies of my SS card and DL.

The origianl info was requested by Security and it was sent to Security at the official Barclay card services address. The second set of info was requested to be sent to Card Services at the same address that I sent the first info.

Sure is a lot if back and forth if they are not issuing a card.  Anyone else been throgh this process with them and if so what was the outcome?

Re: Barclay THREE RING CIRCUS anyone?

I am currently going through the same process with them for the Apple rewards card. In my case its even more silly because I already have one of their other cards.

First of all there is about a two week backlog for the department that does document verification. I have had multiple reps in the security department say this. And so far that timing has been pretty close with the first set of docs I sent in.

I also bluntly asked several reps about the credit side of the app. They could not go into a lot of detail other than to say the credit side of the app is fine, otherwise it would just be a flat out decline and no docs would be requested. In summary:  its approved assuming the ID verification is completed to their satisfaction.

As with anything though.... nothing is guaranteed.

Re: Barclay THREE RING CIRCUS anyone?

Hmm........ had you changed your address or phone number in the last few years? I could see them requesting this if a prior address didn't match your current one.

Have you ever had fraud on a credit card, even if by another lender? Or have a fraud alert on credit reports? Those are other possibilities.

I've never had Barclay ask me to verify anything on any of the 3 cards I've had with them, including my recent Ring application. Sorry you had this hassle. Smiley Sad

Dunno about the OP but in my case, my address has not changed in over 10 years. And again I am already a Barclay customer. The folks in the security department thought it was very strange that the computer system wanted docs from me. Had multiple reps try to override it but no go.

Never had to do this with any other bank.  It's a Barclay's thing trust me! Smiley Happy

One of the guys in the security department and I got to talking. He told me the software that flags apps and refers them to the security area is 95% accurate in detecting fraud. Who knows if that's true or not... if it is then yippee I am one of the lucky 5% that got flagged that is not trying to commit fraud.

Same address however TU and EQ have my daughters address on file for me for some reason. I have lived at my address and used my PO box over 20 years. I have utility and DL info to prove it.  This could be a factor.

No fraud alert to my knowledge.  I wondered if they were concerned with me age.  I am old young at heart guy.  Maybe Barclays thinks old folks are suspicious LOL and don' t need CC's.

Now that you mention it on my last call to them over the weekend the rep said give it a few more days we are backed up so maybe they are so popular they are behind in processing.  I wish you could upload or even fax info instead of snail mail but I assume the problem is in having the personnel to review the info even if its floating around somewhere at their location. If that's the case it must mean they are asking for verification from a large number of people if they don't have the personnel or time to look at what is sent to them. They did say in the letter that they wanted a response in 30 days but heck it's taking them 30 days to get around to looking at the stuff.

Using a PO Box (regardless of how long you have used it)  and having different addresses on TU and EQ that are not your own could definitely cause this. I have a feeling it is related to those issues.

That can't be it. They didn't put me through the ringer. Smiley LOL
