So you're saying getting a CLI from my existing AmEx, then if I get a new one w/o the SL I want I can ask to move the CL from old to new? Is AmEx one of the hard or soft pulls when asking for CLI? I don't want to burden my CR with CLI requests before applying for 1 or 2 new cards. I just got a deduction for my car loan last month w/ Toyota.
I do want to keep the window open to get AmEx's balance transfer card by probably Aug 2020. They only limit 2/90, right? So I would have plenty of time/not hit any limits with them. And conv wisdom goes that you can have up to 4 AmEx cards at a time I believe.
Thanks for the reference to the Biz side. I'm researching that forum now for info. And thanks for the name change suggestion for the topic. I'll try that now to see if anyone else has some info. Really appreciate your input and time!
Amex is a SP normally if you hit apply and it says "pre-approved" and a HP if it says "expand your membership"
When you have more than 1 card with them you can move CL's online once every 30 days. So, if the new card is 5K and you want it to be 15K then move 10K from the older card to the new one. Only caveat is the donor needs to be 12 months old and it's not 100% approved.
I was taking into account the new auto loan already which lead to the suggestions.
The limits on cards is more for close opening dates.... the personal revolver limit is 5 w/ some exceptions of grandfathered accounts like Costco when they sold off the portfolio to Citi.
Everything aside it's probably going to be a one shot deal on Amex to get a 0% out of them on a new account and probably going to be a co-brand card due to your existing cards. If you need to free up a slot for another new one that'll put your app pending and call you to ask which one to forfeit if need be.
NP, YW on the info / suggestions.

and a HP if it says "expand your membership" Does this mean you'll probably be denied? (well because it wasn't a pre-approval?) Chance stinks?

It's not really a chance thing. It tells you whether it's going to be a SP or HP.
If it's a SP it's probably gong to be approved.
If it's HP it's more likely to not be approved though since you don't fit the profile requirements that pre-approve... could be INQ/accts/etc.
