My recent Marriott application lasted an entire 30-days in processing-land. However, I did not call lending or verifications - no need. The automated phone message stayed as 30-days throughout the entire timeframe until 3/18 when it changed to approved.

Oh dear.
Well, two outcomes are possible with this. Declined or additional verification. Wait for the letter to see what reasons are cited. If verification, then fairly straigh-forward. If declined for other reasons, decide whether pursuing a reconsideration can merit a good outcome.
My boyfriend recently applied for a Chase Sapphire and received the initial 30-day message. Afte three weeks he did receive a denial letter. We had hoped because so much time had passed that we would eventually see a card in the mail - but that did not happen.
Apped for the Slate(1st app) & Freedom on March 2, so it's been 21 days now. The Slate was approved 2 weeks ago. For the Freedom, the screen initially said something about verification or more info, then I got an email the next day saying 30 days. A week ago I got some kind of denial letter for the Freedom, but without any kind of TU score(I thought a score was supposed to be included in the denial letter?), and the denial reason was "Too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us". I have exactly 1 account with Chase which is the Slate which I apped a few minutes prior to the Freedom.
The phone message still shows both applications in the last 30 days, and for the Freedom, it still says Under Review with a notify in 7-10 business days. I'm thinking I should call Verification tomorrow & see what they say? I feel like I'm getting mixed signals from Chase as I've only apped for 2 cards ever with them, and only have 1 account which is the Slate, which I thought did not pertain to the 5/24 rule? So I'm not sure how I have too many requests for credit with Chase or opened accounts with them?
Does the phone message ever change to denied, or does it always say under review even when you are denied?
Edit: Just noticed my denial letter(or whatever it is) was dated March 3, so they decided to deny me in less than 24 hours, but the phone message never changed, and it took them over 2 weeks to actually mail it.
Also, I just checked their prequal page & it still shows the Freedom & Slate as options I can apply for.
