I'm looking to apply for the Venture as my 3rd cc. Currently I have a Discover IT (CL 3200) and Chase Freedom (CL 3500).
My 3 FICO Scores are 707 EX (7IQs) - 715 TU (4 IQs) - 701 EQ (5IQs). But my problem is that I have a very thin file as the oldest cc is only 6 months. I'll have always PIF and report a small balance every months and has gotten some nice CLI from Discover. I did a HP from Chase to increase CL from 800 to 3500 at the beginning of Dec.
Do you think I have a chance at the Cap1 Venture? My income is 60k. The card that I really want is the CSP but they denied me due to limited credit history (I applied the same time I request the CLI for the Freedom so only 1 HP)
Thanks!
Have you checked the Capital One prequal site? It is fairly accurate in my experience.
Yes I checked it and I was qualified for the QS1 and the Plat MC. Not the cards that I want though
Are you interested in the QS1? I've seen some posters claim that they app'd for the Venture and QS(1) less than a minute apart (you could have two browsers open to achieve this) and only got one hit for both cards (Cap1 likes to do a triple pull, but not always on their Prime cards). This way if you were approved for QS but denied the Venture card it wouldn't be a wasted hit. The minimum starting line for the Venture if $5K since it is a Visa Sig, but QS1 has no minimum line.
Your scores are fine, as I was approved with average of 660's scores over the 3 CRs. The thin file may be an issue. Up to you if you want to cold app, but be prepared you will take an inquiry on all three bureaus. I had no preapprovals when I was approved for the Venture @ $15k and the Venture One @ $7.5k YMMV.
When you checked the pre-qual site, did you select interested in 'travel rewards'? If I select interested in 'lower interest rate' or 'not sure yet', the site offers me Venture One and Quicksilver One. If I choose 'travel rewards', though, I get the Venture card at 12.99%. So your offers do depend to some degree on what you select you're looking for in a new card.
Your scores seem okay...I got my Venture and 2 VentureOne cards with scores close to what they are in my signature. Every time I checked pre-qual nothing showed. Just cold app'd and received my VentureOne approvals back to back...about 10 months later I cold app'd for the Venture and was approved for that as well. Keep in mind that I also have my discharged 13 still showing...old but still there nonetheless. Best of luck to you if you do decide to app.

OP, I would wait until I get the Venture, V1 or QS Visa....and once you do get that popup,(Usually a set APR, Not a range) apply immediately(Double app if possible, like I have) and hope they only pull you once for each bureau(Like mine did).
Good luck.
