Those derogatory marks are going to make it a bit of an uphill battle. 

Ignore any scores you get from CreditKarma, CreditWise, etc.  They are very good for tracking your credit *factors,* but their scores are bogus and could be significantly higher or lower than the FICO scores that lenders use.  For example, CK gives me a 667-687, while my actual scores are mid-700s.

Capital One recons are kind of a pain but it's always worth a shot.  The worst they can say is no.

Unfortunately it looks like a denial based on the fact you just recently apped for Cap1. Cap1 will only allow 1 new account every 6 months.

Okay well the Discover FICO score showing when I login to my CC account I got shows 630 as of 8/12/16. Is that more accurate?

Why are Capital One recons a pain? And do you think I was denied because I also app'd and am pending for a secured card with them?

Justagirl73 - One app or one approval??? Because the rep I spoke to on the phone said I should apply go ahead and apply making no mention of any waiting period. I have not been "approved" for the secured yet.

Ahhhh, I was under the impression you were approved for the secured card. 

It is 1 approval per 6 months.

It's kind of a sticky situation because 3 CSR's have told me I'm approved for it and I gave the deposit two weeks ago BUT just today I was told I'm in pending status because they need an income verification.

So since I'm still in pending why not get unsecured instead? Do you think it's the secured holding me up?

More than likely.....technically you are approved, just waiting on income verification.

Yeah but what if I never send it in or the income verification isn't approved?

I don't know the answer to "if verification is not approved", but didn't you state you already sent in the requested info?

Yes but the supervisor I spoke to kinda said that my income isn't acceptable because its financial aid from my university I'm a full time student. He said we'll review it but I don't think that is acceptable for A, B, and C reasons.
