Re: CapOne Platinum

Be careful doing disputes of old collections as it can come back and bite you in the butt , don't wake the sleeping dragon so they say. I hada collections that was very very close to aging off and I disputed only to be hit with an update and lost points . Be careful.

Just app'd for CapOne Platinum after reading some posts on here and got this message:

Thank you for your interest.
Unfortunately, we can't approve you for this card today. Recognizing this wasn't the answer you were looking for, we will be sending a detailed email or letter within 7-10 business days to help you understand why.

Is this a flat out denial or a need for review? I looked at their pre screened offers page and they recommended I app for this one :/

EX: 627 TU: 617

Sorry.

1. It's a denial.

2. Cap One doesn't have any effective recon sources any more. But if you want to try, your best bet, believe it or not, is the facebook page of their executive offices.

Re: CapOne Platinum

SouthJamaica - What if the denial is due to my secured app which hasn't been approved but is pending?

When I app'd for the secured card it took about 60 seconds for a decision where they said they'd review but this one only took about 15 seconds so maybe they looked in their system, saw the app and declined immediately.

Re: CapOne Platinum

Update: Just called in today to see what happened CSR told me it was an automatic denial due to a previously submitted application. He said policy is to deny if another app is within 6 months.

I told him that I was I informed by a CapOne supervisor that their policy is only if the previous app was approved. He thought for a moment and said "technically that is true". I told him if that is true and my previous app was not in approved status yet I would like my new app to be reviewed. He said he would have the new app re-reviewed within 24-48 hours but because they are closed weekends to call back Tuesday.

Thoughts?

Re: CapOne Platinum

Idk I would not get my hopes up too much , esp if you already had them tell you that they didn't think your income would be sufficient to support the card. Can't you use your wife's income ? You are allowed to use household income esp if you are married and all .

Re: CapOne Platinum

Well the thing is that for the secured card I put income as $30,000 because that's the amount of financial aid I receive.

But for this one I put $22,800 which is a more reasonable income they may not question. That's the amount of financial aid I receive minus student loans.

I think they flagged the $30,000 because they're like who making this much a year which a 630 CS would apply for a secured card?

We aren't married she's my fiancé.

Re: CapOne Platinum

Oh and I also emailed their EO last night so maybe it'll go through! If I don't get it no big deal not too interest in CapOne anyways no good features and customer service isn't really helpful or nice like Discover.

Re: CapOne Platinum

Yea I guess so but you gotta remember there are LOTS OF ppl with much much higher incomes that would need a secured card so that's not necessarily it. If you guys live together and share a joint checking account you use her income , I'm a stay at home mom and I have to use my Fiance's income

Re: CapOne Platinum

I'd say maybe higher incomes but they probably don't have a 630 CS. If they have a high income and need a secured card it's likely due to bankruptcy.

And we don't have any joint accounts either :/ Her income is only about $27,000 a year anyways nothing impressive.

I will definitely keep you updated. Right now I'd say 70/30 in favor of the secured approval instead of the platinum but you never know!
