Capital One CLI question

I was recently approved for a Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard with a $2k SL a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering, when am I actually eligible for a CLI on the card? From what I've read on the forums, seems like it's 6 months. However, the Capital One website says your card only needs to be over 3 months old (under the "Eligibility" section). https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/credit-line-increase/

And is this timeline different for different cards?

Thanks in advance everyone, hope you're all keeping safe Smiley Happy

Re: Capital One CLI question

You're able to request your first CLI after 91 days. After your first approved CLI, be it at 91 days or further out, you may request for another after 181 days. If you are denied, you may request again at anytime. I would recommend putting heavy spend on the card prior to your request. They don't mind if you carry a balance, as long as you are making significantly larger payments than the minimum. Congrats on your approval, and best of luck when CLI time comes around!

Re: Capital One CLI question

I got the card in early December. $7500 limit. Used for some Christmas gifts, <$1000. Paid in full.

I tried for a CLI in February, after 2 statements, and got an additional $1000.

Two other cards with them, one over fifteen years old.

It seems like a your-mileage-may-vary situation with them. Improving your odds, though, means using it for around three to six months. They don't mind a small to moderate balance as long as the payments keep up; don't expect a CLI with minimum payments. Barely using the card or barely paying it will mean Capital One turns off the CLI tap very quickly.

Thank you! I never leave a balance and always PIF, plus I plan to put all my grocery spend on the card for for foreseeable future. So lets hope that helps bend the odds in my favor Smiley Happy

Re: Capital One CLI question

Cap1 is stingy with CLI's and when they do come they are usually small with crazy increments.  Don't know why I even keep them sometimes.  I have a QS, Savor, and Walmart card that morphed from Synchrony......I have had 7K CL on QS for years, just got the Savor One with 5k SL and was notified I would be eligible for $500 CLI after 6 mos of payments.  No more Cap1 for me......it just hasn't grown as my other cards have.  EQ 777, TU 788, Ex 787, 2% Util, income north of 170K.

Pretty much my experience, somewhat different but having 25k loan paid off in 6mos, paid of financed vehicle bal of 30K in just a few months and numerous other examples........ it seems that they only consider experience you have had with Cap1....no one else matters, not even Chase, BOA, USB, PNC, and other large financial institutions experience and accounts just don't matter with Cap1

Your Quicksilver is likely bucketed. I know that feel. In case it's any solace, they're usually way more generous on your 2nd card after you've built into excellent credit range and have a solid history with them. Whether their cards meet your needs is another story.

Re: Capital One CLI question

Applied, again, today.  Got the dreaded, "We'll notify you within 7-15 business days" response.  I've got good history with Cap1, always paid on time, and in full on my platinum and QS accounts.  I could really make use of the rewards, as we do most of our grocery shopping at Walmart.  This seems to be an incredibly fickle card to score.  Good luck with your CLI, and everyone, continue to stay healthy!
