Capital One CLI + upgrade question

I have a Platinum card with a CL of $1K which I applied for back in December. My first statement was in January, and my fourth statement just cut a few days ago. I've been checking for a CLI every other week after becoming eligible at the 3-month mark, but I've only been offered a $100 increase every time. I've pretty much tried everything; I let a $900 balance report and which I PIF'd soon as I received the statement, and now I've only been letting a balance of $50-200 report and PIF after receiving the statement. My average monthly spend has been around $2K on this card and I pay it down almost every week.

I've also been checking for an upgrade after my first statement, and I was finally offered one to a Quicksilver (yay!) last night. I checked for a CLI too but was offered the same $100. I was wondering if it matters at all if I accept the upgrade before receiving a CLI. Will it ruin my chances of receiving a CLI? I think I read somewhere that a CLI request can be denied if an upgrade has been accepted.

A little background: I only have one other card through a local credit union with a CL of $500 (secured). It also looks like Capital One doesn't do a fresh soft pull if you ask for a CLI but instead uses the most recent AR INQ. My last AR was in February, exactly 60 days after my initial credit application for the card. Does anyone know how often they do AR's?

Thank you in advance for any advice/suggestions!

Not sure on ARs, but you can try CLIs every 6 months or even sonner, it's a SP anyways.

Doesnt matter on the upgrade. You could deny it and try again in a few weeks and you might get more.

Cap1 needs 90 days of history to make a decision. In addition, if you get a CLI, you aren't eligible for another for 6 months. When I upgraded my platinum to QS, I requested a CLI days later.  Got $100.  Now, just gotta wait 6 months and hope for auto increases.

Re: Capital One CLI + upgrade question

I am also experiencing a similar situation with Cap One platinum CLI. Both DW and I got our separate Platinum cards in January, and our third statements cut last week. At this time Cap One would only offer a $300 CLI. Our SL is $3000 each. Our average monthly spent on my card has been about $2500 and, $1500 on my wife's card. Reported Uti has always been less than 8%. I declined the CLI on both our cards. Will try again next month. We are enrolled in their Credit Steps program that would give a $500 auto-CLI after the 5th statement. I will probably accept whatever CLI they offer right before the 5th statement cuts and then get the Credit Steps CLI. Then there will be a 6 month waiting before being considered for the next CLI.

I think that's a good tack for Credit Steps customers. CLIs before the steps increase tend to be small. Just take what your're offered. Six months after the steps increase, you can start to be picky and decline offers that you feel are too low.

Re: Capital One CLI + upgrade question

I am also in a similar situation. I've had a C1 Journey since 2013, requested a CLI for this one a couple of days ago and received a +500 increase (total 2750). Opened a QS1 a few months ago with credit steps program (have not reached my 6 mo auto CLI yet) and requested a CLI last month with no go, but today I requested a CLI and rec a +100 increase (total $400). I hope to get a better CLI when 6 mo hits.

Aside from that, I opened the QS1 thinking I was opening the one without an annual fee ($39) but that was not the case. Once my QS1 hits 6 mo I will merge my cards together. Once they are merged I would like to upgrade the Journey/QS1 to the better QS1 without annual fee.

Does anyone know if I would have to wait another 6 mo after merging the cards for an upgrade?
