I believe Capital One has changed their acceptable number of INQ standards. DH apped for a Venture One the other day and found out today he was denied due to "Too Many Inquiries". That's the only reason listed. His recent scores are EQ=653 TU=677 EX=659. Probably higher than that now due to bringing util way down last month.
We had a bunch of INQ's well over a year ago due to a car dealer running our credit all over town - but that was over a year ago (Will be two years in September)? I have had problems with them lately as well - being denied CLI's due to "Too Many Inquiries". We didn't seem to have problems last year when the dealer inquiries were even newer? Our plan now is to consolidate our Cap 1 cards and look elsewhere to grow our CL's.
At any rate - plenty of fish in the sea... just thought I'd add my two cents and see if anyone else is having the same trouble with them.
That stinks!! You're right, there are plenty of other credit card options out there so check them out!
Yep, sounds about right. They told me I have too many INQs when I hit the luv/hate button. I think I give up on Cap One. They are getting like Chase now. I will keep them since they are the only card when I had none but I will not put swipes on a lender that gives me responses like a magic 8 ball.
They mentioned I have "too many inquiries" when requesting CLI on all 3 of my cards last month and the prior month, and I have 2 inquiries within the last year on that bureau.
Their reasons make no sense with reality. There are a few other threads where others have posted receiving that same reason from Capital One when requesting CLI within the last month.
I'd have accepted the reason if they mentioned too little use of the card, as that is more correct. But to have a reason that doesn't match with reality - when another readily available reason that does match with reality exists - makes no sense.
Then again, a few people have reported Capital One telling them "payment too low" when denying CLI, and the person consistently pays in full. Weird.
I don't give my business to lenders that play games, either, and I agree with the others on that as well.
Sorry to hear, OP, but as others have said, there are definitely better fish in the sea!
Just FYI in case anyone else is in the same boat....
Today I tried again for CLI's on my Cap 1 cards on a whim - and I finally recieved one on each card for $250. After waiting almost a year on one of them - I will take it without complaint!

Congrats on finally getting something at least! But I think you definitely should look into other creditors to grow your credit history and limits. Good luck!
Whatever is/was holding the scores down is more than likely the issue.
It appears from posts on other topics C1 is changing their business model.
