Recently I have found some items cheaper at Walmart.com than Amazon. Since Walmart started using Capital One for that card, I decided to apply for it to get 5% cashback on the Walmart.com purchases. I had actually forgotten it was a triple pull. After applying, I got the 7 to 15 days message. I was shocked, because with my scores it is usually an instant approval. Does anyone have an idea why I might have gotten that message? I am talking about the Mastercard version.
Good luck Sarge, but that is Walmart /Cap One for ya. You would think with your stats you are golden but not always the case , especially with C1. It might be verification but more likely denial. Hope the best for ya
With your stats I would've thought instant approval. Hopefully just a verification issue like AJC suggested.
Maybe give them a ring and check it out. I'm hoping for the best.

I would be curious to what the reason might be for a denial. I wonder if they have figured out that I am a strict transactor. They certainly can't deny it based on anything in my credit report. I would not have applied at all had I remembered it was a triple pull. I have had a Capital One card for 10 years. If they looked at my history on the card, they could easily see I have never payed them a penny in interest or fees...like all cards. The gig might be up on my sucking rewards out of cards while paying no interest. I would have thought that to be an easy card to obtain. I think that might be the first card app in 10 years to not be an instant approval. It would not have been used anywhere except Walmart anyway. I just hate I forgot it is a triple pull with them. I was showing 0 inqueries on 2 out of the 3 CRA before this idiotic move. Approval or not, it is not worth a triple pull. Wish I could have a mulligan on this one, but it is not really a tragedy. I just don't buy that much at Walmart.com.
Just a guess but maybe this is similar to being turned down for a job for being overqualified.

Basically. Discover is the same way, they're not fond of people with scores in the 800s.

Good luck!! How many INQ and new accounts? Some recent DP show more sensitivity.
Same reason I picked up Verizon 4%. More shopping at Walmart with pricing.

And to think that the whole switch from Synch. to Cap1 was to get more approvals

Two inqueries on 1 CRA, and 2 new accounts within the past year. Now ofcourse, the Capital One will be an inquiry on all 3 CRA.

Well, I have not been turned down yet, and the fact that it matches the cash back at Walmart.com, is equal to the cash back from Chase Amazon Prime at Amazon.com. That way I can choose the cheaper of the 2 and get 5% cash back at both. There has even been some orders I placed on Amazon, that came in a Walmart packaging. I would then go to Walmart and see that it would have been cheaper there. It has not happened often, but has happened. Life will not end if declined, and I have grown use to being declined for CLI requests, with the reason being I have not used a significant percentage of existing credit line on the card. To be fair, my starting limit is always over 10,000 dollars. I have not been declined for a new card in atleast 10 years, so if declined I will be reminded what that feels like. I also have not received the delayed decision in many moon either. Perhaps 819 or higher fico 08 scores does not count in the age of covid-19. I wont be happy about being declined, but wont be depressed either. Hey, maybe it is the horrible resiliency index score of 59 that is getting me.
