Re: Capital One Walmart card

I applied for this in Feb.  My scores weren't quite that high (780's), never paid a cent in interest to Capital One in 15+ years, and the only thing I had used their QS1 card for was abuse of the cash back.  They always deny my apps for travel cards and everything else, so I think I've been bucketed or whatever.

And yet I was instantly approved for this one, albeit with a rather lowish $6k CL compared to my $15k QS1.  But who cares, it's just for Walmart.  For me it definitely was worth the triple pull only because Cap One takes debit cards.

There might be some truth in the suggestion that Cap One doesn't like 800+ scores.  My late grandfather always used to say, "If you never get audited, you're paying too much in taxes."  Similarly, whenever my scores get too high I realize I haven't been taking enough money from the credit card companies and it's time for some signup bonuses.

Good luck Sarge, but that is Walmart /Cap One for ya. You would think with your stats you are golden but not always the case , especially with C1. It might be verification but more likely denial. Hope the best for ya

I would be curious to what the reason might be for a denial. I wonder if they have figured out that I am a strict transactor. They certainly can't deny it based on anything in my credit report. I would not have applied at all had I remembered it was a triple pull. I have had a Capital One card for 10 years. If they looked at my history on the card, they could easily see I have never payed them a penny in interest or fees...like all cards. The gig might be up on my sucking rewards out of cards while paying no interest. I would have thought that to be an easy card to obtain. I think that might be the first card app in 10 years to not be an instant approval. It would not have been used anywhere except Walmart anyway. I just hate I forgot it is a triple pull with them. I was showing 0 inqueries on 2 out of the 3 CRA before this idiotic move. Approval or not, it is not worth a triple pull. Wish I could have a mulligan on this one, but it is not really a tragedy. I just don't buy that much at Walmart.com.

Yeah, besides personal feelings about Walmart, since they basically try to rip me off like a bandit on shipping to where i live, i have basically 0 need/use for my card. I aleady closed my 15k store card and know ill never see a cli on my $1700 MC.  I wholeheartedly agree that its not worth 3 pulls.

Recently I have found some items cheaper at Walmart.com than Amazon. Since Walmart started using Capital One for that card, I decided to apply for it to get 5% cashback on the Walmart.com purchases. I had actually forgotten it was a triple pull. After applying, I got the 7 to 15 days message. I was shocked, because with my scores it is usually an instant approval. Does anyone have an idea why I might have gotten that message? I am talking about the Mastercard version.

And to think that the whole switch from Synch. to Cap1 was to get more approvalsSmiley Tongue

Thats a LoL moment. I think it got worse imho

I just applied and got a 2k SL. I don't know what my real scores are but Credit Karma shows EQ and TU at 777.

Re: Capital One Walmart card

Just received an e-mail, and the app was indeed declined. Reason given is too many recent revolving accounts opened(2)  They also did not use Fico 8 scores, because the score they used was 784 from experian. I will update this if any new info comes to light. This has been a bad month or 2 for my credit. First, they create some new index with a 0-99 range, with higher scores being worse, called the Resilience Index Score, and I was on the wrong end of average at 59. Then, I just had to push my luck and apply for this, taking a triple pull to do it. That brought new light on 2 things. I can still be declined for a new card, and they used a mystery score that I do not track. It also represents my first app decline for a new card in over 20 years. So now I am standing on the ledge, and only 1 thing prevents me from jumping. My recent success, or lack thereof, leads me to think I might be unsuccessful in the attempt. A failed attempt would not end it, but just make it more painful. Maybe I should just blow it all up, use the 250k limits, and declare BK. It would be cool to drive a lamborghini or ferarri for a while. I guess I got cocky with all 3 fico 08 scores over 815, and they won a round, and created or used new scores to do it. It identified the source of the score as experian consumer relations, and does not say it is a fico score period. Could they actually be using the Vantage score? I think anyone reading should not be surprised that while standing on the ledge, I was bombed by a flock of pigeons.

Re: Capital One Walmart card

@sarge12  your mystery score is FICO EQ 5.

They use older scoring model, commonly used for mortgages, and there are some CUs that are quite fond of it.

In reality gingerflower, I really do not care very much. I treat credit like a game, maybe because I really don't need credit at all. I could pay every debt off next week including my mortgage. I would still be getting nearly 2200 in SSDI, and have about 375k in savings(401k and retirement) I might would feel lucky if not for the difficulties that my disability cause. Severe stenosis caused spinal cord damage that put me out of the workforce 7 years ago. I have many problems, but money and credit are not one of them. Nearly all of them are connected to my declining health. It has not helped that I was one of the unusual people who actually loved my job as an electro-mechanical system troubleshooter. Being single(divorced), and having no children, it gave purpose to my life. I am not depressed though, and have always had a strange ability to accept what life throws at me. Many other people have health issues as bad or worse than me, and have not got the financial security I have.
