Capital one CLI question

Im not sure if this the right board or not, if not please move it...

I was recently upgraded from cap one plat to the QS card. My question is regarding a CLI, I have a balance of $1200 on a limit of $2150, should I pay it down to around $200-300 before asking for a CLI? on their site, using the their request, they have offered aCLI up $2400, which I think is major crap. Any and all insight is greatly appreciated.

Re: Capital one CLI question

Balance doesn't matter. Payments don't either. I have had minimum payments, paid in full, and $4900 payments several times a month on a $4900 limit over the past year and I can never get anything more than 200-300 CLI's. I think its a limitation of the card. Once your rewards structure changes off of Platinum to WMC or WEMC I don't think you are going to get the big numbers. That is just my personal experience. I have them SD'd now so don't need their CLI's anymore.

Re: Capital one CLI question

If your credit has dramatically improved, just apply for a new QS.

You may get a new 5,000 or 10,000 card easier than 1,000 CLI on old card.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: Capital one CLI question

Cap1 has this thing that once they decide they dont like your tradeline, forget it. No luv  Payments do matter for Cap1.  They do not like you carrying any balance. If you do carry a balance, pay it off quickly

Re: Capital one CLI question

First post =)  Finally have something to share back after learning from all the others here.

I started Cap One with a 3k SL Journey card a year ago. Got the auto Steps bump after my October statement posted which raised it to 4k, and two months ago PC'd over to the QS plat thanks to the link I found here in the forums and then waited...  aaaaand no auto-love happened after my one year statement which posted yesterday.

So today I popped the CLI request button 'just  to see what happens' and they woohoo'd me back 2k!. I'm not sure what the cap limit is on a starter Journey migrated over to a QS but I'm at 6k and happy atm.

I typically PIF my account each month before the statement hits but do use the card almost daily. Highest utilization ever was maybe 50% but highest statement posted is always under 30%.and would then immediately pay it in full  I figured maybe they'd want to see both swipes and an occasional amount on the books...dunno if that helps or not but that's what I've done.

Fico scores as of today are 686 exq 682 tu and 665 ex... Still recovering from a 6 year ago divorce/foreclosure fiasco but thanks again to all the peeps here I'm working on getting back on the horse.
