Care Credit while on a DMP?

Hello everyone. Does anyone here have experience with Care Credit and DMPs?
I’ve been under a DMP for 2 years now. Only 3 more years to go to finish my plan!!

A few months back my dog got sick and I had to use every single savings I had to pay for the vet bill. Now I'm back to square 1 with no savings. My dog now needs more treatments. The vet told me about Care Credit. Can I apply for it even if I’m on the DMP? I checked my FICO score today through my bank of America account and it said 676. Thank you!

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

Not sure dmp is but I would say having more than a credit score of 670and higher is a start. I’ve seen people get approved with less. I would say depending on your debt to ratio, credit inquiries, how long you’ve had credit, old and new account, if you are a high risk spender, i would waste the hard pull— all these would play a major role.
If your credit is a little shaky, honestly I would go the route of a personal loan by avant, prosper, lending tree or something like that. it takes less than three days for them to deposit the money in your account and you can also see if you are pre approved without a hard pull. If you decide to move forward with care credit they pull transunion FYI

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

Thanks for your reply. I went to the actual TU score and said: 686.
Payment history: good
Amount of debt: good
Length of credit history: very good
Amount of new credit: exceptional
Im new to this so not sure what to look for.

A DMP is a debt management plan or credit counseling. They take all your credit and consolidate them after they talk to your creditors to lower your interests. This is a legally non-binding agreement meaning you can cancel it anytime. They advise you to not open any new credit but don’t think they take any acctions against you. This is were id like to hear if anyone has had this experience. Thanks

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

With consolidation, have you confirmed wether your creditors will mark your account as “ paid as agreed” “paid in full” “settled amount” just curious. Settled amount in your report maybe a red flag but with care credit you never know. I’ve been denied due to high utilization in the past 3-4x with a 670 CS. I was finally approved instantly for 7k.

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

I say go for it. If you don’t have inquiries and willing to risk the hard pull. The worst that can happen is they say no and 1 hard pull. If that’s to risky apply for a personal loan (google).

One account says: managed by debt counseling service. The others say: account closed by consumer.

I thought you couldn't apply for credit while under DMP?

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

Well they advise you not to. It is not like prohibited per se.... as far as I know. Most people leave a credit card out of the DMP for emergencies. This is were I made a mistake. Didn’t leave any CC open for emergencies. Now I need urgently to pay for my dog treatments. My logic is, if people are allowed to keep one CC for emergencies why can’t I open one for this emergency?!?!

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

I personally wouldn’t apply but I don’t know much about debt consolidation. My logic if I were a creditor— if she’s currently in debt consolation with a company that needs to manage her bills, why would we give her more credit at the moment? That maybe a reason why they say hold on to one card.

Re: Care Credit while on a DMP?

Pull the trigger! Save your dog, and use that as motivation to cut back elsewhere.

Best of luck! I hope all goes well for your dog. Woof!
