Chances of CLI Approval with WF and Amex?

I've been searching the approval boards to find similar data points to see my odds of approval for both of these cards, but it seems like most of the approvals have significantly better profiles and the majority of denials don't fit my profile either. I wanted to get a couple of soft pull CLIs before I app for a new NFCU card in July. (I know to be careful with WF with a SP).

I've banked with Wells for over 10 years, but when I joined NFCU, I transferred all my primary banking with them. I will deposit money in my WF checking before I request the CLI. It started as a secured card in 2018 (2k deposit). It graduated in 2021, then a few months later, they doubled the CL, giving me 4k. It is used heavily, but sits at 0/4000 now.

I somehow was approved for a "baby" Delta Amex in 2020 with FICO in mid 600's (SL $1000). I waited the 91 days, applied for a CLI and was denied. Read on here that these $1000 SLs don't increase often, so I decided not to try until my report cleaned up.

Data points in 20/21

3 paid collections from 2018

2 late payments in early 2020

Scores around 660

DTI: 42%

Data points now:

1 paid collection (off at the end of the year)

The 2 lates from 2020

EX:725

EQ is 714, but has legitimate errors that are being disputed (paid 2018 C/O showing late payments in 2020 and in April of this year). Hoping these will be rectified shortly and increase my score.

DTI: 36%

Thought in CLI approvals?

Re: Chances of CLI Approval with WF and Amex?

looks like numbers are all better. I'm in the middle of the same two clis. My fico8s are high 700, low 800s. Util 5%, dti 5%. No baddies. I had $9000 amex, $8500 wf.  Other limits ~ $2000. I just got amex cli 3X to $27000. I'm waiting for amex to post before asking wf for cli. Hoping the higher amex limit will help the wf limit. I'm going to ask for $20000.

I'll post wf results when I have them. You might try similar approach, do most likely first, let result post before second request.

If it matters, amex is bce, wf is active cash. Also, I have checking with both. Recently made two transfers into wf. Plan to pay next bill due from them, generate activity.

Re: Chances of CLI Approval with WF and Amex?

For added context.....as it sounds like you know....AMEX CLI's can be done online and are usually answered instantly.  Though they have been known to ask for bank records of their suspect of your financial performance.

For WF, you can call for a CLI and ask "Is there an opportunity to increase my X card with a Soft Pull Increase?"  They will ask you income and housing costs and CLI number you'd like then attempt to process.  They will tell you in the process either yes or no and when they say no, it is usually added that "in order to proceed, we would need to do a hard pull of your credit" so if you don't want that at this time, you can cancel the process then and there.

Checked wells, reports my ex fico9 is 821, that must be what they use. Don't know if it matters much for cli. Probably more about age of account, 6 months, other cls , who knows? Maybe income and dti.

Re: Chances of CLI Approval with WF and Amex?

I waited about ten days after AMEX updated my score on their site and applied for the CLI. It was declined, reason given was my score was 693 (their site shows 725), so it looks like I'll need to wait 90 days and hope they pull a more current report. Oh well, I'll wait a bit for WF, maybe at the end of the month to be sure. My EX file has one small paid CO from 2018, one 30 day in April 2020, and another 30 day in May of 2020. Currently showing a 14% utilization (9,000 TCL), score 725. I'll make sure it's a SP and see what happens.
