Hello All!
This is my first post on here (rather exciting). I am looking to apply for the Chase AAPR Card, but i really dont want to get declined, as you will see why soon.
My current wallet holds 3 credit cards:
Amex Blue Cash Preffered: 2400$
CapOne Quicksilver One: 2300$
Wells Fargo Student VISA: 1800$ (operates as a backup visa)
And then there are the desk drawer dwellers:
Best Buy VISA: 2000$
Amazon Store Card: 2000$
And if it matters, I have like 30k in student loans.
My scores are: 676 TU, 680EQ, 720 FICO (Amex). currently sitting between 4 and 7 inquiries depending on who you ask.
So im currently a student, at 19 years old. I work during the summers and that income is about 30k/yr (Used for apps). I want to know what my odds look like for this card. I really want it as I spend a lot at restaurants, and want a visa to use for that odd time im at costco.
Thank you in advance for the feedback!

I would think that you would be fine.. the UW criteria isnt that horribly strict - they gave me one!
Hmmmm. I just joined AARP myself (even though I'm only 53 and nowhere near ready to retire!) so I'm eligible for that card too. There's that little matter of the old Chase Visa that got included in my BK, though...
Matt,
I appreciate your feedback but from what ive heard, the AARP card is exempt from the 5/24 rule. And I actually got my interest in this card from the Capital One offering. Id personaally prefer the Capital One, but it seems like theyre selling it as super elite. I doubt my credit is good enough to get it.

You don't need to be retirement age or join AARP to apply or get approved for the Chase AARP card. I have the card and although I'm "retirement age" but not retired, I wouldn't join AARP if it was free, but I won't get into the politics of AARP. It's a good Chase card, feel free to apply because no age or membership is required (can't say about the bk history, that's a different matter).
Also, I discussed the matter with my boyfriend, and his opinion is that I need to garden the cards I have right now. I just feel like my loadout is fulfilled wothout a dining card! But then again I may also be on the "I need a new thing now!" kick. so i guess thats a good question, would i be better waiting until i graduate in 2 years, and am making a lot more and have much better credit?
Are you using Credit Karma for your TU and EQ scores? If so, you should grab your FICOs. You might be pleasantly surprised by what you see (or not). A lot of people here sign up for a free trial from CreditCheck Total. Sign up and cancel within the free trial period, and it'll cost you a dollar.
How do your card balances look? You may be able to gain some points by leaving a small balance on one card and payiing the rest to zero. Definitely don't pay all to zero; you'll be dinged for that.
I am using CK, I will look into that. and my balances are pretty good in my opinion. I usually try to close my AMEX and CapOne at around 100. the Amazon and BBY just finished a zero interest period. My Wells Fargo card is on auto pay with a monthly 10$ bill on it, ill probably do the same to my bby card. as for amazon i use it now for the 5% back and pay it as it posts. i.e. it never closes with a balance really.
It looks like your balances are in great shape and that you have habits that should serve you well.
But because your scores might be borderline (we don't know that for sure), note that you can optimize your score by leaving a small balance on a single major card. That balance should be at least $5 because some lenders forgive small balances and report zero. Pay the rest of your cards to zero before the statement cuts.
This isn't something you need to do month in and month out. But it's something you can do if you want to apply for credit and want your scores in the best shape possible.
