My wife wants to get a Chase Freedom and a second Discover IT card (the 1st is a sandboxed graduated secured card & she has a pre-approval).
She wants the Discover card in time to make a big purchase before the end of the quarter ($120 more in rewards than using her Citi DC card). Unfortunately, she is at 4/24 and 4/12 (she was 5/24 if you included her being an authorized user- although her TU report still has it a "terminated" relationship- we already maxed out this quarter on the 1st card).
So, we were discussing applying for the Chase, then accepting the Discover offer after the Chase card is approved. My concern is that I have heard of people getting their Chase card cancelled b/c of the an unreported new account (account opened before Chase, but not showing up on the credit report yet). My concern is that opening up the Discover card right after (same day) or soon after (within a few days), might upset Chase and cause them to cancel the card.

Chase will SP your reports within a few weeks of opening the card. If they see something they don't like, they could close the new card. If you were applying for say, an amex that doesn't show up for 2 months, there would be nothing to worry about.
Gonna have to pick one or the other.
