Chase Double App Question

Hi folks,

I'm sitting pretty at 4/24, and wanted to maximize my last slot for a couple of sign-up bonuses. My current stats are as follows:

FICO8 730-740 across 3 bureaus

Util 8% (highest card 15%)

AAoA ~10 months

Income ~80k

The last account I opened was the CSP, late September. That also was my first Chase card, which is the reason for my skittishness. I have had 3 statements cut so far, got the bonus after 1, and paid in full so far.

I'm looking to double app for the United MPE, and the Marriott Premier. I can meet both sign-up bonuses by paying rent (my landlord charges 2% for CC's, but it's worth it for the bonuses, I feel like). I fly United quite a bit and I'm a loyal SPG customer. Amex SPG is next on my list, but I wanted to snag the 80k Marriott points before I run over 5/24. Is this a sound plan? What are my chances of being approved for both? I was also debating whether to just go for the MPE and the Freedom, since the minimum spend is lower as well as the underwriting (?). I barely got in with CSP in September (scores were ~710 then) with a minimum $5k CL, so I'm a bit nervous. Had to endure 2 weeks of verification as well. Am I screwed if they decide to verify me again?

Also, do I just apply for each card on separate incognito windows, or is there a method to double apping? I want to combine HP and get both.

Thanks for the all the help, folks. I do appreciate it.

Re: Chase Double App Question

Based on this chart from here:

It seems like your best course of action would be to app for the Marriott card first since there's no going around 5/24, then go visit a branch and see if you can get an in-branch pre-approval for either the United MPE or the Freedom, depending on which you choose to go with ultimately.

If it was me, I would definitely not try to double app online since both cards count towards 5/24, and you risk getting the 6/24 card closed. But data points exist that show this could work so YMMV I suppose.

Re: Chase Double App Question

Hi arkane, thanks for your reply.

I like what you suggested about the in-branch pre-approvals. Unfortunately there are no Chase branches in my state so it's tough for me to check them, and I would honestly prefer 50-60k UA miles over 80k Marriott points, because I fly more than I stay at hotels, but with the looming introduction of Amex/Chase Marriott/SPG cards I thought I would grab 'em before new cards with new bonuses pop up. I also like the MPE because I can easily PC it to a no AF version and still keep some of the benefits (like wider award availability, which is killer for me - I don't check bags). Marriott is purely a get-the-bonus-and-run affair.

Are double Chase apps not as successful anymore?

Re: Chase Double App Question

There's certainly data out there that suggests that you can easily get around 5/24 by applying for two Chase cards in one day. I just haven't seen anything too recent, and given Chase's little stunt back in May, I'm a bit hesitant.

That said, this is purely IMO, and I'm not exactly a huge risk taker lol.

Re: Chase Double App Question

Thanks again for your response.

I have read the DoC article you referred to and those are some scary stories. I would hate to have my CSP burnt down as well... definitely a thinker. I wasn't even aware of the double app option until someone on r/churning mention it recently, especially since the One Sapphire rule came into effect. I think a lot of folks were successfully getting the CSP and the CSR by double-apping.

I suppose I'll app for the MPE, and only apply for the Marriott or Freedom if the MPE is auto-approved. Maybe I can split the SL or something.

Re: Chase Double App Question

I am one of those data points.

I was at 3/24 when I got my Citi DC and both Freedom cards.  I got the Freedom and the DC on Sunday, and then the FU on Monday.  The Freedom and FU were within 24 hours of each other and approved from the same pull.  The FU was my 6th card and was an instant approval.

They go by what's on the report.  If your report only shows 4/24 you're good to go for both.
