Baddies from 5 yrs ago on defaulted student loans
BoA Cash Rewards $1,700 since 12/25/18
BoA Travel Rewards $2,000 PC from Secured card in Feb - account opened 2 years ago (inquiry just dropped now)
I'm getting prequalified approvals for AMEX, Capital One, Discover, but on Chase there is nothing. I applied for them on a spree with scores in the 650s/660s this past Xmas so I'm wondering if their records are rejecting me based on that.
Given my profile, is going for Freedom a bad idea without the prequalify blessing?
Hi OP, there is always a risk when you submit a CC application, regardless if you were pre-approved or not, the lender can still end up denying your application for various reasons. In your case, you have a thin file which may or may not work to your advantage if you want in with Chase, some have been lucky to get the Freedom with a thin file, and some not so lucky. Another stumbling block I see in your case would be the default on the student loans, did you pay that off? You can always have it reconsidered if you managed that baddie on your CR. You should go into a branch and ask if they are able to see any pre-qualified offers for you. Good luck

Since Chase often double pulls, you might want to wait.
But if that's the card you really want, and you're willing to risk the waste of 2 HP's, go for it. Many people get approved who did not have preapprovals.

Can you clarify the 'spree' part?
You're only listing two cards opened a year apart, so that can't be the spree you're referencing . I think your post is missing info.

I bought these and only ate one.
Applied for Uber Card, Blue Cash Everyday, Chase Amazon
All 3 denied 12/25/28
With my original secured BofA inquiry from 2017 falling off, I currently stand at EX-4, TU-1, EQ-1 for inquiries.
I dont think your denials have anything to do with that single inquiry, or inquries in general.
What did the denial letters say?

+1
Could you share a bit more infirmation so that others may answer the questions that you have. Verbage on the denial letter/s should be more specific.
Do you have any other cards besides your secured BoA card? If so, are any of your other cards unsecured? What is your oldest account/s in good standing?
I'm not really understading the No Offers Dangerous? part though....
Good Luck!
I currently have two cards.
BofA Cash Rewards with $1,700 limit (opened 12/25/18)
&
BofA Travel Rewards with $2,000 limit (opened as a secured card 2 years ago but product changed in February to Travel Rewards).
If I remember correctly, the letter said too many inquiries and late payments (which are now over 5 years old)
What I meant by dangerous is if it's pointless to apply if there are no offers available currently.
If you only have 2 active cards, I would wait until your newest card is at least 6mo. I've read that Chase can be kind of picky and may want to see more age on your accounts. In my experience, I've had a harder time with BoA than Chase.... I have less (time) of a relationship with BoA though.
Good Luck!
Edit add: Pre-Approvals/Offers or not, there's still no guarantee. If you believe your profile can support it and you really want Chase, try them out. There's a lot of information available in these forums...
