That's my thought. When I reconned my Freedom denial on 5.31 the analyst didn't even mention new accounts in the last two years, and I have seven.
I have 20+ since Jan. 2014 and have been approved for 7 Chase cards since November 2014. So....shrug.
Just to be clear the only Chase cards that are of concern are the non co branded ones; CSP, Freedom and Slate. This new policy that everyone is talking about only recently started. Did you get any of those 3 within the last month or so?
Are you indicating that even if Chase would deny an app for their own cards for this reason, that there is still a possibility of an approval for the others (United, IHG, Marriott, Southwest, etc.?
I'm not sure if it refers to just Chase cards or total new accounts. When I applied for the Freedom (and was instantly approved) back in March, I had 9 new accounts (many more inquiries) -- 7 of the accounts were less than 6 months old, and the Freedom is my first (and only) Chase card. So unless the new rules came after March, I'm thinking it refers to just Chase cards.

March was before this change came about.

Maybe this change has to do with the increased sign up bonuses? When did this change come about?
@Irish: Again it is not JUST the dedicated Chase cards that apps are under heavy scrutiny---it IS the co-branded ones also. When I app'ed for that Marriott card and got declineed then tried to recon, the whole conversation between me and that Sr. Analyst was about how many new accts. and accts period that I have--over a period of almost 2 years. Never did they duscuss baddies, income, lates (which there are none) or anything else---it was ALL about the number of accts.

Yes, they'll still approve for the co branded cards
Well looking at the positive side - I get a full Experian credit report gratis (actually for the soft cost of 1 HP).

Well that can happen with any credit card company. I've been asked about that by Chase, Citi, Barclays and still approved. This specific new policy that they are mentioning about no recon whatsoever if you're denied for too many cards applies to only the three main cards. My g/f was denied for the CSP for exactly that reason, 'too many new accounts in last two years ' and they wouldn't budge on recon. The last analyst she spoke with specifically told her to apply for a co branded card and she probably would be approved. She did and was instantly for $18K for the Marriott card.
@Irish: Well then it could have been possible my particular profile was" singled-out" so-to-speak for ANY more cards with Chase period b/c when I got my letter and posted my Chase Internal Risk Assessment score of 685 (out of 900) there were quite a few people on here that told me to argue it b/c based on that score I should have been able to have that denial overturned. But the Analyst and the letter said the main reasons I was flagged by the computer was too many accts and other factors related to having too many accts....16 accts. was the "too many" number they gave me BTW.
And I should add that there were balances on at least half of those accts, but my total UTIL across ALL of my accts. was 11% at the time I app'ed
