No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I recently applied for a Chase Freedom Flex account and was denied. I called the recon line and explained the reason for my initial denial (15 inquiries in the 2 years due to opening a new small business as well as apartment searching).
The agent on the recon line said she would approve me for the card, however the system wouldn't allow her to and she was required to forward my application to another department who will make the decision instead. She said to expect a letter in about a week. She didn't tell me the name of this other department but said that they have no phone line to transfer me too, so I'd have to wait for a written notice from
Them.
Has this happened to anyone else? What is this and why? For context, I don't have any other chase credit cards but they are my primary bank. Im at 1/24 according to my current report (however I have 3 new accounts that haven't been reported yet, putting the true number at 4/24).
I find this all to be super weird. Any info much appreciated!

Edit: Corrected a mistake, see comment below
Oops I made a mistake in the post above. I have 15 inquiries in the past 24 months, not the past 12 months. I have 8 in the past 12 months.
You can periodically check the status of the application via the automated system. You can calso check your Chase online portal to see if a new account eventually displays (if approved). Of noteworthy, the separate department which tends to review any re-reviews, reconsiderations, etc., is walled-off from direct customer contact. So, just be patient while they conduct their re-review of your application.
Thanks for the info and advice 😊
Do you happen to know what the reasons are to be sent to this dept rather than regular recon? Or is this just a mystery?
I suppose it doesn't matter either way but I'm curious.
Same department most likely just a supervisor or senior credit analyst needs to either approve it or deny it and not available for conversation. You should know within the day with exception of possibly weather delays due to the storms hitting half the country. Just call the automated line if it stays 2 weeks or 30 days you are still being reconsidered, if it say 7-10 days it will be a denial or in-turn will say you have been approved
Thank you! I just called the application status line and the automated message said I'd receive a written notice within 30 days. Fingers crossed!!! Really want to get my food in the door with Chase.
