Citi Denial and Approval, Blacklist?

Citi was burned 15 years ago in BK7. Got another Citi card about 7 years ago. Also have a co-branded card through Citi for about 5 years. CLI/reductions in APR never an issue. I applied for the Citi personal loan and was denied - the reason was a previously bad account with Citi. Have never seen this before. This makes me concerned, do you think I'm back on the blacklist for future Citi card applications or the two are completely separate? I'm very interested in the Citi Strata Premier when my gardening is over in two months. My scores are around 780 now, no baddies, low uti.

Perhaps the loan amount and card limits exceed a threshold for the amount Citi is willing to extend based on income and overall DTI? I've always expected different underwriting elements for loans vs credit cards. Lenders have more risk control with cards compared to unsecured loans.

Re: Citi Denial and Approval, Blacklist?

Citi tends to be easier getting back into if it's a co-brand card.  There's a number of DPs with people who burned them and can't get a a core card, but can get co-brands.  I can't speak for loans though.

You should be fine and they are seperate. I burned Citi about 20 years ago on an unlimited black card, didn't bother with them until recently, have Citi Rewards + and a Citi Costco Card. They offered me every card but I try to avoid AF as much as possible, depending on the card and the perks.

Re: Citi Denial and Approval, Blacklist?

I can't get either.  I'm blacklisted across the board, including Home Depot.  I burned Citigroup in 2002 on a Texaco card and a Citi Platinum Mastercard when I was 29.  I wanted to apply for an AAdvantage card but never got any offers on the pre-approval site so when it dawned on me that those two cards from 25 years ago might be the problem I tested my theory on the Home Depot Credit pre-qualification site and confirmed it when I was told immediately that they can't offer me anything when I have spotless credit, a 769 FICO...Amex platinum, CSP, Venture X, etc.  So I know they're holding those two unpaid chargeoffs over me.  Can I even do anything about it or am I blacklisted for life?  Is there a way to pay them back and get the blacklisting removed or negotiate some kind of deal with them?  Is there even a department that can locate account records from 2002??  I don't even know how much I owed them but it wasn't a lot -- probably $250-$350 on the Texaco card and $3,500-$4,000 on the Mastercard.

Re: Citi Denial and Approval, Blacklist?

Was that unlimited black card ever paid in full?  Or what did you do?  How did you manage to get back in with them?  I'm blocked everywhere Citi operates, over less than $5,000 dating back 24+ years!
