MYFICO and CCT do not hard pull. They soft pull but charge for credit monitoring. That's the difference. Trust us, people here know what's up.

Thanks for the reply. I've got my Fico 8 scores from CCT (these appear to be much higher than creditkarma vantage of ~730):

Equifax 778  (1.6 years)
TransUnion 784 (oldest 1.8, average 1.7)
Experian 784 (oldest 1.8, average 1.7)

Does anyone know whether Citi will accept me as a resident alien (on long term work visa). I know some banks (looking at you Ally) require permanent residency/citizenship to even open a checkings or savings account.

Re: Citi DoubleCash Approval Odds

Would someone please link the JamesA post for $1 FICO scores?

Citi will accept you as a resident alien. Just select your country of origin after selecting citizen or not.

Re: Citi DoubleCash Approval Odds

I checked the application requirements and they do allow resident aliens.

So, I decided to try the online application and got this:

Unfortunately, we were not able to approve your application.

You will receive written notification with details regarding our decision in approximately 7-10 days.

I called the automated system and the reason was insufficient credit history on Equifax, which is the only bureau without my rent payment history. Does this mean I wasted a HP? How long should I wait to reapply or should I call reconsideration?

You can try for reconsideration but I'm not so sure they will overturn their original decision.

On re-reading this thread I can't help but notice how stubborn you appear to be.  You were advised several times not to apply to Citi for your first unsecured card but to consider Discover (and Amex) first.  Those two lenders usually accept applicants with "thin" credit files.  Yet you persisted in applying with Citi and got the entirely predictable denial.

You were also told how to get your FICO scores from CCT but engaged in a time-wasting discourse about annualcreditreports; apparently not understanding the difference between credit reports and credit scores.  You would do well to listen to the advice offered to you; most of us have gone through this process many times and possess the experience you don't yet have.

Sometimes a stern talking-to is just what the doctor ordered. Especially on Sunday. All be good tomorrow.

Thanks for your reply. I admit I really wanted to get the Citi card.

The advice I was given was to check the prequal (by Jnbmom,) and consider other options (by xaximus), which I considered before I decided on Citi. I did check the prequal sites, and knew there were plenty of back up options. But, no one was saying I would be flat-out denied (a couple even said I had good chances); I won't regret this HP (only Equifax) as now I know the answer for sure and will reapply in the future. It was more of a stretch goal, but how would you know if you don't try?

For the FICO scores, I am new to this community and credit and I didn't know the difference between a credit report and score (thought a score would come with a report; it boggles my mind you have to pay for scores). I only heard that annualcreditreports was legit and the $1 free trial initially put me off as I'm wary of scam sites; once CCT was confirmed to be legit I went to get my scores.

Thanks for all the advice by everyone here.

Re: Citi DoubleCash Approval Odds

I'm sorry to hear about the denial. That said several things stand out, many of which will be repeated.

Generally, the point of a forum is to provide people with limited experience access to people with much more experience. You did well by asking for opinions and advice but then ignored it.

Reports and scores are not the same. Scores are a snapshot of the information that is contained within the report . The report is all of the information used in generating a score. Both matter greatly. You hammered on free annual credit report but ignored the specific references to scores.

Citi is a very difficult lender to get in with. They like history. They like equifax, we told you all of this.

Discover, on the hand, is 2/10% for the first year so a much better card than Citi DC during that period. Amex has several options that are comparable or better than DC depending on what you're using them for.

Please, please, please, take the invaluable advice offered here. It will serve you well and will be a great resource in growing and moving forward!
