Citi Recon said they would "Reprocess my application"

Hello all,

I applied for the Citi Premier Card yesterday and was denied for too many inquiries. The same day I applied for the Citi Premier card, I applied for the BBVA Compass NBA card and the Fidelity 2% American Express card and was approved for both.

I called the Citi recon number (800-695-5171) and asked for them to reconsider. The guy I was speaking with said that I had a lot of recent inquires on my credit report, and asked what was going on with that. I told him that I had applied for two other cards the same days because I like the 5% 2x a year that the BBVA Compass NBA card offers and I like the idea of having a 2% card with the Fidelity Amex. I told him that I wanted the Citi Premier because I'd like to receive 3% back on all travel purchases.

He said "Ok, we will reprocess your application and you can expect to hear back from us in 48 hours or so". I asked him if this would result in another hard pull on my credit and he said "No".

My question is, when he said they will "reprocess my application", does that mean I'll be approved? What are your thoughts on what this means?

Welcome to MyFico.

No, it certainly doesn't mean you will be approved.  It only means that they will take another look given your explanation of the inquiries. They still could uphold the denial We can probably give you an idea of your chances if you tell us your credit scores, what, if any, baddies you have on your reports, hold old is your credit, etc.

Re: Citi Recon said they would "Reprocess my application"

I have a total of 7-10 inquiries on each of my 3 reports within the past year. I currently have a Citi Double Cash, 5 Chase Cards, 1 American Express, 2 U.S. Bank, 1 B.O.A., 1 Discover, 1 NFCU, 1 Wells Fargo, & 1 Barclay. AOA is about 1 year with my oldest account aging 7 years. No baddies, no missed payments, no collections, etc. Income is $48,000 and I have a Citi Double Cash limit of $9,500.

According to Discover, they give a free Fico from Transunion and I have 772.

According to American Express, they give a free Fico from Exdperian and I have a 748.

According to CitiBank, they give a free fico from Equifax and I have a 749.

Sorry for he delay in responding.  Given he information you provided I think you have a solid chance at getting approved. Citi isn't big on recons but it has happened.  Good luck and let us know how it turns out

Re: Citi Recon said they would "Reprocess my application"

That's great to hear! I actually received a call from the Executive Office today and the lady informed me that the application is being reprocessed. She sounded optimistic and happy on the phone but gave no indication of whether or not I'd be approved. I will keep you guys updated in case some else runs into a similar problem in the near future.

thats great to hear and since you are already a citi cardholder your chances of being approved may increase a bit. It is already promosing due to the fact that they are willing to reconsider your application being denied because of too many inquiries. For the most part they tell applicants right up front that they can reconsider a denied application due to INQs. Good luck and keep us posted!

I would be very surprised if you didn't get approved.  I reconned with EO on my Double Cash for an aprpoval for 1k and turned around and reconned a CLI for 5k.  My scores were/are no where near yours so you gave a good shot IMO.  Good luck.
