Also "because we don't like you" is either not allowed or not politically correct.
It's not allowed because it generates too many disputes:
"You do so like me" "No, we really don't" "Oh, come on, you do!"
Easier just to say that there are looking for less than 0 inqs on a particular bureau, and sorry if you aren't able to meet that requirement.....

Yup, it was a statement.
They are required to give a reason, not for the reason to be valid.
So, the reason may be valid unless it is not.
lol yeah i literally have 0 on equifax, which they cited in the letter. TO BE FAIR!!! (lol) I do have 44K exposure with them so its not a huge deal.
Sorry to hear about your denial! I have such a love hate relationship with Citi! It goes back over the last 25 years. Some of my oldest accounts are with them.
I have had a lot of denials when it comes to getting limit increases with Citi. I have 2 Best Buy cards issued by Citi. It took me over 14 years to get my first limit increase with them despite never being late and using the card often.
With my Citi Custom Cash I've only gotten 1 increase. Every time I ask they give a different reason why I am not able to be approved. As soon as the reason is no longer accurate they just change it to another reason. Here are some of the reasons I've gotten.
-Too many new accounts opened recently
-Too many recent credit inquiries
-We are unable to approve you without a hard inquiry. Too long since we last pulled your credit.
-You have not used enough of your current limit.
-These 2 were the kicker. You are using too much of your available credit. I was using less than 1% of my limit. On the same denial letter they said you are not using enough of your current available limits on your other credit cards.😵💫
