Comenity Mastercard 1.5% CB Card

Well, last night I was thinking that I still need another new card for the sign up bonus (SUB). I have a lot of spending planned this summer. I had applied for the FNBO Evergeen Visa card a week ago on the Pre Qual online offer. I am long time existing card holder, but the application status remains at Pending. There have been no emails, phone calls nor snail mail letter from them to date. Interesting, that they also have not pulled credit yet. I don’t feel like calling. I’m not sure what they are doing over there.

So, I go through all of the banks and CUs checking for their offers. I either am over exposed, don’t like the institution,  or I’m not eligible for membership. I then thought of Comenity. Years ago, I had the Virgin American airlines credit card. It was great! Easy fast approval, with generous SL and easy large CLIs. Sadly, of course it closed with the Alaska Airlines merger. That was my only card ever with Comenity. I now know of the new Amex card they launched, but there is no SUB. So, the 1.5% Mastercard will do, with the $500 spend required, for the $100 cash back. I thought, this should be easy, short and sweet. They loved me a few years back and my credit is only better since then.

The application was short. My name, phone number, DOB and email. The rest of it they filled in and then they asked for income. That’s it. Click. About 10 seconds go by, reply is:

We appreciate your interest!

"We need to review your application and will notify you of your application status within 10 to 14 days."

And that was it! No phone number or website. Nothing else. I thought that was strange. Immediately then, Credit Karma alerts me that they HP Equifax. OK, no worries, I only have 1 inquiry and the FICO 8 is 849.

So, then this morning Disco Identity Theft alerts me to the same inquiry, but also something new! I had never seen this before:

Identity Validation Clothing Store – Company Alliance Data     An identity verification has occurred using your personal information.

So, I assume it is Comenity since they issue those other referenced cards. I have never received an alert of this type. Now, there was no credit pulled from Experian, there is no Inquiry (HP), just this indicator/alert from Disco Identity Theft about ID verification.  I thought this was interesting!  So, a few minutes ago I call to Comenity. Thank you to MyFico board for the phone number! Sandy answered, I can’t help you with this, you need to wait for a snail mail letter…..OK… So….I will let you all know what happens at some point. What do you all say? I’m done applying now. I was just kinda greedy for SUBs.

Re: Comenity Mastercard 1.5% CB Card

Bread Financial = Alliance Data Systems = Comenity/Comenity Capital Bank. They're all intertwined. Yes, it's fairly common for Comenity to SP a separate CRA.

As far as the application goes, there are no backdoor numbers to contact to speed things up. Any decision or requests for additional information are typically done by mail. So, nothing strange. Just update this thread with the results depending on what the letter states.

Re: Comenity Mastercard 1.5% CB Card

If I remember correctly... I applied for a Comenity Toyota card a few years back, and received the same message.  When I received the "snail mail" letter it had a code for me to call in with.  I believe the purpose was for address verification....  so they make certain you received the letter at that address.

Once I did that,  I was immediately approved with what was a nice starting line for me at the time..... and the line has grown since then.
Perhaps it's the same thing in your case.

Best of luck.

Re: Comenity Mastercard 1.5% CB Card

I have had this commenity rewards mastercard since december 2021. the 1.5 pct cb can only be redeemed as a statement credit. the sub also can only be redeemed as a statement credit, and taking the sub off the balance was prompt after i spent the 500. interestingly this is how i got the card,

around june or july 2021 i applied for the commenity rewards mastercard and was instantly denied.

then in december 2021 i received a preapproved mailer from them for the same card.

my credit stats really didnt change during that time so its a head scratcher

Hi, I've been traveling quite a bit and remiss with my posts! I'll get to it this weekend.  However for the Comenity card....they did another identity check [SP] on Experian.  A letter came in the mail for me to call Comenity Security department.  I did so and they asked me questions from credit report.  One was tricky and they wouldn't let me look at my report. Anyway, I got it right.  I passed. [LOL] They said my welcome kit would come in the mail. I'll post more  in Approvals this weekend.  Thanks!
