@Anonymalousregarding mailers today I got another Citi AA, another Disco, and....BCE.... So maybe all of these were sent on the 1st and USPS took a month to deliver them, because I shouldn't have received a BCE mailer after getting BCE. But Fantic proved inquiries, accounts, or rabid credit seeking isn't a problem with them
. At least if you are fantic.....
I'm not sure what it proves. I'm only certain of two things: One, credit scores aren't nearly as important as most people think. And two, underwriting is a black box we haven't really figured out. It's true each profile is different, but that doesn't tell us a lot because we don't really know what lenders are looking for.

It's also worth noting that a variety of these marketing or promotional offers are not being sent directly by the lender. Plenty of these are sent on behalf of FIs by a third party entity which often receives certain criteria or demographics for extending a variety of offers. Plenty of offers also lag time-wide since any [PRM] SPs are usually performed weeks, if not months, in advance.
It took almost two weeks to arrive instead of 7-10 days, but the letter from Elan arrived yesterday. I was expecting a denial, but it was just identity verification. So I called in, gave them the reference number, and answered a bunch of questions. And the end, they still wanted a copy of my driver's license and social security card faxxed over. I had to figure out where I could send a fax because who uses faxes anymore, but I sent it this afternoon.
And they're apparently working late in the Elan underwriting department, because I just got an email. I'm approved for $8,800, which is my highest SL. (Beating Navy Fed by a few hundred). It's also my first VISA Signature.
I don't have the sheer number of cards that many of the young files on this board have accumulated, and my total CL isn't the highest. But I started with a total CL of $300 limit last November, and this pushes me over $40K. Going a bit slower and spreading it out does seem to help with SLs.
I haven't completely decided yet, but I probably won't apply for another card before this one reports. I do want the Custom Cash, but it's probably better to wait and avoid the risk of AA, since Citi is being skittish. And I only really wanted the Flex for the SUB.
Weird how things work out. This was my third choice, after the local CU card and the CC. But it's a card that will see long-term use. Plus I'm getting it from a local bank that dates to the 1880s, and and still only has 3 branches.
I suppose @FinStar or one of the other friendly mods will be along to close this thread, so thanks everyone for the help. Even if I didn't always follow your advice, I valued all your information and opinions. ![]()
Thanks for the update @Anonymalous and many congrats on your ELAN approval -- very respectable SL. I always cringe whenever FIs request docs to be faxed, but thankfully most devices these days have fax apps that can be used to scan/send docs. I would add that it's doubtful Citi or Chase would take any AA if you decide to apply for Custom Cash or Freedom Flex. I would do so before ELAN reports (if you wish) and then call it a day.
I went ahead and locked the thread, but you can always post the news in the Approvals section if you'd like.
