It helps to have a list of determined cards that fit your needs. I've wittled mine down to about 4 additional cards including a 2% cash back card non-category (Double Cash) an additional 5% card to go with Freedom (Discover IT), Travel and Dining plus a companion to Freedom (CSP), and Gas and Groceries (Amex BCP). I also have a baddie falling off in November, and a couple of others I'd like to try PFD on beforehand. All the trouble with the Flavor of the Month cards that people have had in the past makes me determined not to go for trends.
Am I addicted? -> Yes!
Am I going to get rid of it? -> No!
I am new to this game, but I found it extremely entertaining. My oldest line is one year and I already have 21 inquries in total. I wasted some inquries on some store cards, which now I think back, I don't really need them and I am glad that I didn't get approved either. But for cards I have now (6 in total, and 7 is coming), I think all of them have their own purposes.
JUST when I think I am out...THEY PULL me back IN!! Love this thread. Last app was March 15 with Chase....thought good last one, then citi comes up with premier...I am so talking myself out of it, too many inquires, too many new accounts, too many accounts with citi etc. LOL This thread has helped for now to quell the urge thanks OP!! I am thinking of thinning the heard but am a little worried about my util number going up after discarding a few cards....right now I have a balance on a 0% card that will be paid off in Sept. everything else is PIF so we will see if I can get over the util thing, and dump a few cards! Good luck all!!!
The WorLd Is Yours
As a on the road recovery app junkie, it is too easy to justify apping when the need may not actually be there. I would say take a break and see if you can stop apping for a month or two and see if you slip in and app anyway. This the easiest and clearest sign that you might have a problem. I know for me I told myself, no apps but ended up doing it anyway and "justified" the app to myself. That is how I now have 57 total Experian inqs, 48 Equifax and 8 TU.
I saw the biggest issue was reading other peoples approval threads and saying, they did it and I need that card so I'll app.

What do the lenders say about all the inquiries? Does it interfere with any of your approvals ?
Cmon we are all adults, if you actually need a card you should apply for it. A difference of wants/needs.

So are adults with alcohol and drug addiction issues.. Does not mean they are any less of an adult, just means they need help and support to reform. It is the same thing here.

Some lenders are more sensitive to inquires than others. Barclay's, Citi, Chase, AMEX and Discover seem to be the most sensitive to inquires and new accounts.
@Loskene,
I like the fact that you are keeping up with the thread - updating and answering questions asked. Good job!!
