Just applied for a Credit limit increase from AMEX...Got the Hilton Surpass 4 months ago, my first AMEX card..$1000 limit...I applied to raise it to $3000 but my answer was, will send you a letter in the mail in 7 to 10 business days. Guess I should have waited 6 months...oh well...I will not apply until after my Anniversary of the card... Maybe they want a human to look over my account?? Maybe a denial??? Account is in great standing...i pay it off every month...reports 0 balance..Any thoughts???

Letter wording is almost always a denial .
Oh really...oh well
Keep checking you pre-qualified offers. You might score a larger limit card with Amex before juicing a cli out of your first card. If you ever get an offer that has a set apr and has the verbiage "decision in 30 seconds" come back here and post about it before applying. Sometimes it seems like a true offer but sometimes it's just marketing. These Amex peeps around here can help you sort through it. They've sure helped me.....right? @Anonymous
$1000 limits almost never get 3x increase, let alone an increase at all for a really long time. That limit means you barely got in. As long as you have blemishes on your reports, it'll be tough to grow.

I get that...but my report has no blemishes... It is my first AMEX card...

Even though your report has no blemishes their initial approval of 1K was what they were willing to give you and must not be to comfortable with your profile right now .
Yeah ok
Like it or not it's the truth. No one is throwing money to the wind these days. If you're new, they'll keep the leash short until they're comfortable.
I have one old blemish on my file that I should be able to EE away tomorrow morning and end up with a 100% clean EX file. I have two Amex charge cards (Gold and Platinum) and four revolvers. All four revolvers are $1000 cards. My EX is 713. I'm over two years into my cardmembership with no missed or late payments on anything in eleven years, low utilization, lots of spend through them, solid income, and still haven't gotten dime number one in CLIs. There are a lot of things they look at besides score and just one can be all it takes to trip up your increase attempts.
