if I apply for both these cards in one day will it only do one hard pull ?

It can go either way. They might do 1 HP. With mine they pulled one from EX and then one from TU.

Should I wait to apply ? I got pre approved but just paid off all my credit cards .

If you're pre approved I say go for it. Go for the one you want the most first, then go for the other.

Getting the 2 cards with 1 hp is a YMMV thing..

I was approved for Freedom and Slate with hp same day. But it's not a guarantee. Also if you have more than 5 new accounts in the past two years, don't bother apping. You will get automatically denied no chance of recon.
