I have auto loan with DCU, got it back in March of this year. I applied for their visa credit card last week and got a call I was not approved and would be senidng me a letter.
Do they recon well? I want to see if I can get this card. I want it for the 0% transfers. MY FICO is about 660
DCU does not recon but it doesn't hurt to call and see if they will reconsider. Not all credit card companies allow recons...
good luck with that...from my experience they are very stingy...They approved me for a CC several years ago with a $1000 limit....I tried for two or three years to get a CLI increase with them and they would never budge....I always paid in full, and they would always tell me there is ample credit available on your current card...so I would carry a balance and I would be told that I am utilizing to much of my current available credit. What was really funny was one time I was declined for number of inquiries on my PCR...and I had five, and all five were from DCU...I just ended up closing my CC with them and opened one with Delta Community CU with a starting limit of $7500. Let me know what happens!!
I have read in another post that DCU requires a EQ-04 score of 675 to approve for a CC. The rates listed were:
675-699 11.5%
700-729 9.5%
730+ 8.5%
675-680 is also the score DCU wants to give their best rate on auto loans.
Since you are a member, I would watch your monthly FICO score. Once you get above 675, you should be good. I think there are some other rules, like no recent BK's, etc. DCU seems to have strait forward, if inflexible rules.
You may also get pre-approved for a CC card in your pre-approvals. I have heard if you are pre-approved, they will not HP you when you app.
I got a decent auto loan rate with them back in March. I called back and chatted with a rep and he told me after he talked to one of the approval people that my decline was not because of my score but because of how much credit I have vs my income or it sounded like I needed to pay my 0% amex, off 4k balance. He was going to tansfer me to the rep in that dept so they could explain better. I didn't want to since I was busy at work I told him the reason I wanted the card was to transfer over some apr balances and take advantage of the 0% apr until july anf no transfer free. I'll have to call back today.
