Ms. Pizza, you are living proof of the point I was making about file thickness. 😊

Re: DW can't get approved with Capital One with 700 scores (for Quicksilver)

So, when you did he pre-approval you were given the options of the QS1 and platinum? That is basically telling you that it is unlikely you will be approved for a prime card, although yes some have still been approved.
You were complaining about Cap One giving credit to people with worse profiles, but they would have also given your DW credit had she applied for the card she was pre-approved for. She was not denied credit, she was denied the prime level of credit in which Capital One did not feel she was qualified for.

One thing that would be great, is if Cap One made counter-offers when denied for prime cards. Oh well.

It was not meant to be, but the "aggressive" letter to the EO will almost certainly sink her chances of a recon. Perhaps a nice letter would have been successful, but we are past that now.

hahah, i know.

Im in the garden for 2 yrs (well, I mean Im gonna try really hard, lol), my scores are finally rebounding from my feb-may craziness, and I want to start over with a clean slate, meaning NO inquires and NO new accts for 2 yrs.  I wanna try my hand at Chase again, and Penfed Smiley Wink...

But yes, file thickness trumps scores and baddies sometimes. still stinks for the OP though.

Would love to see you make 2 years, if you could do that you would be in such awesome shape to get alot more cards!  I just made it a month a few weeks back and it is tough really tough to garden!  I give myself another two months before I apply for something again, no real will power for me

Im gonna try like heck CC!!!  My last new acct was May 31, and no inquires for a month now, I think..LOL..It depends if the SP's actually turned into a HP or not, but I dont have monitoring, I dont know, lol.. Between the end of 2016, and beginning few months of 2017, Im closing 12 more store cards down to prep my profile for hopefully a new major card. Depends on what my scores will be too, hopefully in the 680-695 range. I dont need any more cards at all, at this point its just "want', but I want a CC with penfed and Chase. Hopefully I can weasel my way in with Chase with a $500 freedom, lol,

Re: DW can't get approved with Capital One with 700 scores (for Quicksilver)

Just give it time with Cap1. Wait for 6 months, garden her current cards and try again.

I was fortunate they gave me a second chance, I had the MasterCard platinum, 24.99% apr, no bonus with credit steps. I took it and ran, was so grateful for anything they'd do. After I proved myself by running every bill and purchase through that thing, pif often two times a month, they rewarded me with a $1500 clip after completing credit steps. Then they rewarded me with more cards and another cli. That initial 'crappy' card had turned into a QS MC with $7k cl and will go into the sock drawer until I can combine it with another card.

It can be done with them but you sometimes have to take what you can get in order to get your foot in the door. My file pre ch7 was thick and spotless. I'm working on getting my post ch7 the same way. It's going to take time when you are building from scratch but it will happen.

Re: DW can't get approved with Capital One with 700 scores (for Quicksilver)

Had a blast reading this thread this morning over my first cup of coffee. My only comment is in regards to humuhum...just because your dog Fred was approved by C1 doesnt mean anything. Fred has 842/844/845 and the Amex Centurian card. I was talking to him about it in the VIP lounge at LAX, he was buying rounds for everyone while waiting for them to fuel his Gulfstream.
