Hello All,
I've been trying to get my hand on an Amex charge card for a while, but haven't had any success. I decided to try today after my credit score increased 33 points to 698. I already have the Hilton Honors Surpass that I use and pay in full every month.
I applied over the phone and I did not receive a decision right away. They sent me over to the verification department. They pulled up my application and said I was declined because I filed for bankruptcy. I understood, thanked the lady and hung up. Then, I though about it and said wait a minute because I filed for bankrupty over 5 years ago. So I called back to inquire about the reason and I was informed they recently updated their policy that if you have a bankruptcy on your report, it is an automatic denial. I'm not sure if that information is true or not, but thought I'd share for others as a heads up.
Anyway, I'm thankful for at least for being a current member and won't poke the bear for now. I have plenty of credit and just stay in the garden.

Sorry about the denial. Could be evolving rules as charge offs are at an all time high so could be getting ready to weather the storm with student loan payments starting up again sunday etc. Or could be incorrect information as we wil need more data points from people in the coming weeks.

That doesn't sound correct but who knows? I have a bk7 showing on my Experian and Equifax reports ( I got it EE'd from TU) and all the Amex cards in my signature were obtained this year with my most recent being last week. They were also included in it in 2015.
ETA: I looked back and the last time I can see when they pulled my credit for the approvals was April 13th this year, so its possible its something they have changed since then as noted above to weather the storm.
@CreditCuriosityAgree 100% on seeing more DPs on this to see what's actually going on (whether good or bad still want to know). I'm a rebuilder with a BK7 that will hit 6yrs on halloween, but was approved for my BCP with decent $5k SL in late Jan at not quite 63mo post filing. I don't think we're in a materially different macroeconomic situation than we were in January, but I don't underwite anything and maybe things will be a little stickier once student loan repayments restart. Nonetheless I hope Amex hasn't changed their policy and if they do I wonder how it would impact current cardholders with negatives. FWIW, within the last 2wks I put my largest purchase to date on my BCP and within a day or two of the charge posting, there was a change in what cards show up when I look at my recommended offers. I still don't see any of the eelevated SUBS I see discussed all over the net however (only elevated SUB I've seeen since opening is when Green had 60k instead of 40k but that was everywhere it seems and saw it on CK before the amex site).
