Re: Discover 2nd (second) card app thread

Here is a recent story about partial reallocation:
"Follow up from a while back trying to re allocate credit limit onto a new Discover It Miles card. Only got an $8.5k credit limit at approval (old Discover had $12.5k) and HUCAd a few times but kept getting similar story – have to wait 3 months, then request credit limit increase and should unlock ability to shift credit. Well, after my first 2 stmts (first one was little longer than 30 days, like 40) I decided to give it a whirl. Clicked request credit limit increase in app. Got a $3k increase right away so called in and explained and got transferred to credit limit increase department. They saw my approved credit limit increase and sure enough they said that now gives ability to shift around. Moved over $9.5k on top of the $3k I got in the app to get to $21k with the It Miles and left $3k on my 5% It card. No credit pull on the increase." http://milesperday.com/2018/02/reallocate-new-discover-miles-credit-line/
I was reading another article and they recommended adding for someone in the credit limit department or a manager/ Specialist because the lower level might not know about the process at all.

Re: Discover 2nd (second) card app thread

I gave up waiting for the auto-CLI and decided to see what my service card would give me. It's been almost a week since my 3rd statement cut. Success! I went from $3k to $6k because I...forgot...I... wasn't supposed to accept it. *Headdesk*
Well I decided to call regardless and turns out I just needed to have a CLI available that day! It didn't matter that I'd accepted it. (I did need to tell him though because he automatically started to check if I'd had one available. ) The first person I talked to started to do the realloc but when I said only a partial realloc the system wouldn't let him. I was transferred to an analyst who moved it over, no problem. He did confirm that the CLI needed to be available on the card you're moving the limit to.
I was probably on the phone a total of 10 minutes.
So are you next Joe8185? 😉

Good work! Smiley Happy I'll probably be checking around the end of the month after my next statement cuts, so we'll see what happens then. I need to find the Discover backdoor number...

Joe8185: Good luck!
I just used the number on the back of the card.

If you do a partial realloc, for me they reported the drop in one card before they reported the increase on the other card. Luckily Discover does mid-cycle reporting upon request, but just a heads up that it might temporary affect utilization.

Re: Discover 2nd (second) card app thread

Appled for IT card and approved approx 3 months back was eligable for CLI increase today yep a whopping 500 after 3 months with this card actually being a 5k CL still tiny in comparison to my other cards, but ya its discover... So decided to combine my MILES card that is out of the double cash back for awhile now and move the limit over.. So my IT card is now at 11,250.. Still one of my lowest CL's by a decent margain, but at least useable now for 0% apr or a BT if ever needed.  It will grow at 1k every 3 months is my guess, but whatever least I was finally able to combine my limts to make the card useable for me and my purposes

Hey guys, im not sure if this thread will stick but i figured id give it a try to create a thread only related for those looking to app a second Discover card, most likely the It card but since their selection isnt that big other cards could be included.

Though their is another Discover unofficial data point thread, i want this one to be more focused for those considering apping a second Discover card so they can see data points from those of us who have experiencd this. Please include , if you remember, your Fico score when applied, and any pertinent info like previous credit limit, any promos offered with app like 0% apr, bt offers etc.

If this doesnt last or gets merged i understand but hopwfully the few of us who have closed our first Discover cards and reapped can shed light to those thinking of doing soSmiley Happy Thanks everyone, ill begin......

@Anonymous @AverageJoesCredit, don't ask me why, maybe there's a full moon or something, but I decided to bite on your idea and applied for a 2nd Discover card with a 'preapproval'.

I was approved at $5k starting limit.

Although my TU FICO 8 was 770, they did a hard pull on EX where my FICO 8 is 743.

It wasn't instant; they asked me a couple of questions.

It will be interesting to see if this one gets the $300 CLI treatment.

I guess I'll use one of the cards for balance transfers, and the other for purchases.

Wow SJ, congrats buddy. I sincerely hope this one can grow. At least now you will have future option to combine limits. I asked a recent poster in apps about what kind of balance he was carrying because he got approved 12k and in 2 months got 4k more. Lol, Discover will not for any reason deviate from my 90 day $500 cli routine on either my first card or this one. DD, what the fico is that lol.

This will be interesting to say the least. Im thinking of experimenting with the Discover bt theory. I got 1k on my my Citi DP but they wont ever increase my 2800 limit so might be worth a shot.

I'm not familiar with the Discover bt theory, but if it's a theory that using their balance transfer offers loosens them up for CLI's, I can shoot that one down for you, because I'm always using their balance transfer offers... it's the only thing I do use.
