@bizarrocreditworldIf the quarterly categories didn't exist, this card would be closed and it may well be at the end of September.
Without question, as the Discover card after Year 1 would be completely useless without the 5% categories.

Which is why I'm going to SD my older Discover once I finish paying off the balance and transfer the recurring payment I currently have on it to another card, until I can either combine it with the newer Discover card or find a way to reallocate most of the CL on it to said newer card and then close it out.
@Anonymous wrote:Don't even worry about it I am sure that's the story of like 80% of us when it comes to stingy Discover. Literally ALL of my CLIs have come when I have purposefully stopped using the card for three months at a time. I literally get an email from Discover notifying me of the CLI like "Hey, hey! Remember us? Don't forget about us! We are relevant! WE MATTER!"
I used to be madly in love with Discover when I first got them but now I look at them as "The Meg" of my credit cards. Don't get me wrong, their card designs, customer service and BT offers are awesome, but I don't like how they do CLIs no matter how conservative *eye roll* they are.
Same here--except I'd go anywhere from 6 to 9 mos. with no use and see a $500 increase every 90 days or so. Then they surprised me by giving me a $1500 CLI last February--so I decided to take it out of the SD and give it some spend to the tune of $800. Tried at 90 more days at the end of May---NOTHING. Also tried the other day and still nothing so after I pay the remaining balance--back to the SD it goes! I swear I don't know how some of these forum members get $30-$50K CLs with them.
This is still my first year with them so I'm just trying to maximize the cashback bonus. I'll keep it though since there is no AF. I've had two cli's since I've had it. $500 and $1500. I keep reading that they're very random with the way they do things. LOL.

I didnt know that one could acquire more than one "It" at a time and move/combine limits between them. Most CCCs to my knowledge don't allow having multiple of the same product. Perhaps with Discover this is a potential solution for those that seem stuck at a certain limit that they want to further increase?
That's precisely what I'm hoping to do, assuming that I can't get a CLI next spring on either card when it's time to attempt combination (one of the requirements for Discover account combination is that you have to have a CLI offer open on either of the cards). That being said, I'm still trying to find out what the procedure is to request credit-limit reallocation from one card to another.

Gotta call and ask and have a cli available and no balance on one you are closing i believe.. Big PITA especially the part having a CLI available as we all know those are rare for alot of us. You can only have 2 discover at one time so if you plan on getting another you would have to combine first then close wait a week or whatever then apply again.

Yes, I know - that's the combination process. What I'm trying to find out about is the process for partially reallocating credit limits from one card to another as an alternative to card combination.
