I just completed three statements with Discover so thought it couldn’t hurt to request an increase, just to lower my utilization. I have a $1,300 balance that I’m holding off on paying as it’s for a business trip that’s yet to be reimbursed and I’ve got the 0% APR for another 9 months. Scores are around 690-700 and income around $100K, current limit’s at $6k. Got denied without a credit check or anything. Are they just a little stingy with CLI for newbies? How long has the card been carrying a balance? Are you making more than minimum payments?
Literally just started carrying the balance as of the latest statement. Made the minimum monthly payment for this month with my points. I plan to pay it off in mid-September after I'm reimbursed for some business travel. Good to know, I figured that may be the case.

I knew one could use points for a statement credit but didn't know it could be used as the minimum monthly payment. Other CCs don't allow this. IMHO, I suggest when doing this in the future, still pay the minimum payment. Actually, pay more than the minimum payment.

I got my Discover it in December I believe. Haven’t carried a balance and have put a few thousand through the card. I requested a CLI and was declined. Income a bit over 100K and over 700 in all bureaus. I’ll try again in a few months. I’m just looking for extra padding for utilization although my overall utilization is around 2% typically across all it’s always good for when you plan to make bigger purchases. I hate when you make a big purchase at the wrong time and although you paid it off a day or 2 after it looks like you carried a balance. That happened on my FU. Have t carried a balance on Disco. As FYI, my SL was 8.5K at around 14.24%. Hang in there and good luck to us all trying for a CLI.
Oh wow! You're a much better candidate for an increase so it's like totally random I guess. Alrighty then. Like you I was just looking to be able to show a smaller utilization ratio but I can handle this small hit to my credit score for a month or two.

Don't look for patterns in their behavior. Discover CLI "policy" is inscrutable.
