Discover IT stuck at $1,800

Have had Discover IT since April, still stuck at the same $1800 limit my Fico is around 667.  Any tips on how to get a little bump?  I usually use the card often for the 5% cash back rewards and have a balance month to month but keep it low.

Call and ask if there is any SP CLI available. If not, then it will be a HP and you will probably be disappointed in the results.

Re: Discover IT stuck at $1,800

It seems like Discover sometimes (often) takes over a year to show significant SP love. Knowing this I would call and speak directly with a csr to ask if a SP cli is available on your account as stated above and if not explain how an extra $500 wouldnt be sufficient. Unless it is and in that case stick with it Smiley Happy Im saying $500 bc that seems to be the preferred increase amount chosen with a HP request

FWIW, I've taken 2 HPs to get a CLI on my Discover. The first one resulted in a CLI of $1000 (doubling my initial CL of $1000) and the second was a CLI of $750 (bringing my total to $2750). So they don't always give $500 HP CLIs.

Re: Discover IT stuck at $1,800

I am one of the lucky recipients of the HP $500 increase. I have had the card about a year and a half and I really have put the card to some good use, especially with the online shopping category. They never had any soft pull increases for me so I went ahead with the HP.  My transunion was 779 and my utilization is about 6%. It can vary for everyone, but I wouldnt go the route of a HP and expect excellent results. It, at times, seems as though they are more generous vis SP. I had read many accounts of this sort of thing so I wasnt really surprised or offended. YMMV.

Re: Discover IT stuck at $1,800

I'm just happy to be in the door with a $1500 card.

Not interested in HP $500 CLIs so I'll just sit back and see what happens with any SP CLI love...

I'll give it a year because I have other cards with higher limits and better rewards so it's not the end of the world either way.

I think discover is just one of those banks you have to be patient with. If that doesn't work for you, then they aren't the bank for you.

I just read in another thread that Discover loves card usage and carrying a balance near the CL is a wise plan of attack during my 6 month 0% promotion so that's what I'm gonna do...  Hopefully that will lead to some SP CLI love.

Don't care about the UTI penalties I'm in the garden for the year anyway. Smiley Happy

I am more than patient... I used Barclay Apple for 16 months just to get in the door so I could get Sallie Mae.  Smiley Happy

Re: Discover IT stuck at $1,800

yea, I have read the same. No better time than when you're in a holding pattern. I have always paid in full before statement cut. Maybe I'll give the same a shot when they next solicit me a balance transfer.
