While the reason they gave is kind of strange, and obviously wasn't the sole reason for denial, you really can't be surprised when you get denied places.
How many total revolving accounts do you have on your credit reports, open and closed? Weren't you at like 90+ open accounts at one point? Since then you closed a bunch and opened even more. Not to mention all of the inquiries.
I can understand why they gave you the denial. Personally, if I were in UW, I would not approve you for any card looking at your report. It's easy to tell that you most likely won't make them any money as you are either just going to churn rewards, go busto, or just open the card for the enjoyment. Either way, they don't make money.
The secured card is probably designed for very thin files. Why would someone with a bazillion cards and inquiries want a secured card?
Obviously, it would be nice if you could get the It card, but every time I see one of your denial posts followed by bashing front-line CSR's for denying the almighty CA, I say to myself...really?
I get it a lot of what you are saying but you are reading my posts wrong if you think it comes down to anger for being denied... I'm the first to say I'm an extreme credit file for a lot of banks HOWEVER where I get angry and where I post negative things about CSR's is when they either:
1. make stuff up because most people don't know differently.
2. Are trained completely wrong but tell you things as if they are truth and I start out nice in trying to help them learn the truths about what they say but if they take an attitude with me that I don't know what I'm talking about when they are spouting about Federal Government this and that... I'm going to lay it down! that has nothign to do with being denied!
3. they just literally are too stupid for the job they are in... lots of jobs I am not qualified to do and I don't do them... I simply think many big companies have lost sight on proper training and caring about the experience a customer gets. again has nothing to do with being denied.
When it's typed it can come across colder, meaner, more entitled, etc. but if I'm denied for inquiries or to many accounts or to much credit... I have no issue with that... I only take issue when I get lied to, misled, or talked down too!

Agree 100% my friend!! ...Some people here just dont know you well, like a few chosen ones do ......YOur anger always comes from the dips*** glorified CSR's...98% of them really have no clue. Its like when you have a UW tell you..."well, the computer denied you, I cant override that"... WTH?? of course you can!!! Youre a freaking UW...thats why Im calling.
Trust me....I totally get you and where youre coming from.

I don't think it helps to call other people on the board names or to judge them. It's really ok to express frustration at not being able to get a card you want, and a frustrating customer service experience in addition, and CA shouldn't be bashed for doing so. Sorry it happened, CA.
Ca knows they most companies make reasons to deny and getting upset at what a rep says is foolishness. They have no more control your approval than anyone else only the computer can really decide. I would venture to say with close to having100 credit cards is more than likely the reason discover wants No part of that. I know he has been trying the last couple years to no avail. Venting here will not change anything. Many of us love discover and i consider them my favorite lender. Maybe 2nd best cap one being number one. They were my 2nd 10k card when I only had 8 months history. I guess all ca can do is keep trying. I don't even know why he would want it at this point how many denials. Like 8

I understand, taxi. He does have the same right as anyone else to vent here without being jumped on for it, though. I think we want the board to be a welcoming place for people.

you are correct with front line reps which in the end all these discover reps are but they tell you they are credit and the letters tell you to "call into one of our knowledgeable credit analysts if you have questions" THATS WHAT PISSES ME OFF!

No body is talking about his rights him. Ca is a pro here and knows the credit world inside out. As he stated these wow have no clue. That's the point. Even the credit analyst are suspect. Maybe a supervisor can override those computers I'm not sure. But I would think there has to be a better way to allow someone to get a secured card.
+1
Wanted to post an update:
I called back this morning regarding both my Discover it unsecured being denied 11 days ago and then my discover chrome secured card being denied 3 days ago.
First rep says let me look it over and places me on hold for just over 5 minutes and comes back and says the unsecured was denied from BK reporting on your credit file, for the secured account I can get you over to an "analyst" that handles secured accounts.
I hold and she comes on and ask to look over everything and places me on hold also.
She comes back and says, it was declined becuase you have an unsecured discover card already.
I said yes, it's a joint account though and I want my own and I was declined unsecured so thought I would get my foot in the door with secured.
"Policy" is that if you have unsecured, you can not get a secured.
I said, I don't have that information as it's not online and yet you still pulled my credit report even though it would be against policy to issue a card!
She said, well when you apply, we have to pull credit.
UMM, not if policy never would allow a card, you don't need to pull credit.
I said, and why can't I move credit line from my joint account to open my own secured account.
Discover policy does not allow us to move limits.
I said that is false, my partner did it!
She says let me get you a supervisor. (mind you all have been nice so far, as discover agents always are, never my complaint)
Another very sweet younger sounding woman gets on the phone.
I am in my first run on sentence of my issues and my phone drops the call... as im screaming bloody murder in the car (i'm over 15 minutes in at this point and my 3rd transfer so didn't want to have to start over)
Just then my phone rings... she actually called me back!!!!
I answered THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CALLING BACK!
she said oh so glad I was able to get you back but can I please verify you since I had to call you... no problem.. she says, okay tell me the issue from where you were.
1. I said the problem I have and some of them I know from experience, ONCE you are a Discover Cardholder you can talk to "actual" credit analysts that have the power to look at your credit report vs. read off the computer generated letter and they can overturn computer decisions but it seems (maybe you are high enough up!) but when you are not a customer you get a CSR labeled as an analyst.. which might be fine for the average person that doesn't have existing customer experience to know what they are being told is not correct!
2. you declined me for BK on my credit but it's not a public record, it's 2 macy's accounts that were included in someone elses bk and I was joint on... and yes they are reporting but they are nearly 5 years old and reporting $0 and lets be frank here... discover loves a fresh out of bk person but then me with just 2 accounts listed included in a bk that is not mine, im denied for it!
3. i apply for this secured card and am denied for having an unsecured discover already as policy (not stated online) says I can't have a secured account now and yet you still pulled a HP on me.
and 4. the previous rep tells me it's against policy for discover to move CL from existing to open another account, but that isn't true because my partner did it!
she says okay, let me address 1 at a time the best I can and I am also sending your feedback to the team as we talk (not sure where it goes but none the less!)0
1. She didn't address the fact that before you a card holder the "analysts" you call into are not able to see and actually do anything regarding your full credit report but she quickly started looking at my credit report to prove she could!
2. she didn't have much to say about that either... we just moved on from it as it doesn't make sense!
3. she is submitting for the HP to be removed for the secured card application as it isn't fair that I take a hp for an app that was declined already due to policy.
4. she says that the person has to be approved for a 2nd account first and then they can move limits which doesn't make much sense to me since they didn't give my partner anymore credit, they just offered him to use either half or all of our joint account limit to open the new card but I don't get that option. but better then her saying it's not possible!
Overall, I felt like the call went really well and I am getting the hp removed and I learned 1 more thing about discover that I didn't before! (you can have 2 accounts with discover and if you start with a secured you can apply for unsecured but you can't go in other direction regardless if first unsecured is joint or not!)
I told her that all agents are always super super nice, I just dislike being told they are analysts and being told things that would normally fly for someone that isn't a cardholder already but since I am they are always false answers being stated as policies.... she submitted the feedback
Some of that was pretty funny. You cant make stuff up this good
Glad to hear you at least got the HP removed. Talk about finding out very obscure Discover policy the hard way!
