Do credit card companies keep denials on file?

I applied to Chase 2 years back.  I didnt follow through with a recon and I dont remember what the denial letter stated for the reasoning.

Do you think Chase keeps track of the reason for denial?   Only reason I ask is because I don't want to waste another HP if I'm possibly blacklisted.

Starting Score: Ex: 495 Eq: 492 Tu: 497
Current Score: Ex: 708 Eq: 716 Tu: 710

The applications submitted are kept on file for a specific time period but not for 2 years.  What gives the impression that you're blacklisted by Chase?  Did you burn them previously (or any of their predecesor banks)?

Re: Do credit card companies keep denials on file?

When I applied a little over 2 years ago, my credit wasn't in the best shape, but it wasn't in the worst ever.  That's why it would be nice to know the reason.

The only reason I think theres a possibility of being blacklisted is because I had a Chase Checking account in the past.  It was overdraft for a few months when I was in bad financial shape, so they closed it.  But I was able to pay it off and opened a new account.

Are they able to tell me if I'm in good standing with them as far as possible credit lines?

Have you checked thier site to see if you have been pre- qualified for anything?  If you are thinking of applying, check that as that is some guarantee and if you don't mind sharing, how does your credit profile looks like?

Re: Do credit card companies keep denials on file?

I've been rebuilding the past 2 years and have no lates or derogatory items on file.

The pre-qual site gives me Slate & Freedom options.   But I've read that some blacklisted members have been denied, even after being "pre-qual'd"

I'm not worried about being approved or denied based on my credit, but on my past experience with Chase.

Are your scores ok? if so give it a shot.  You have nothing to lose.. If not approved immediately, call the recon line and plead your case as to why you should be given a chance / why you want the card.

  • In my personal experience Chase Recon is very understanding and accommodating. When I was denied for Chase Slate (decent score of 686 at the time) i recon'd over a month after my denial and they were still able to manually approve my application with no second hard pull.

Re: Do credit card companies keep denials on file?

I would imagine youd be blacklisted if you defaulted on one of there credit cards, if you did that with a checking account and they let you reopen a new checking account I dont think youd be blacklisted from there credit cards.
