Few CC Apps

Hey guys, I wanted to apply and get a couple of cards at the end of January, but would like to have an idea of my chances on them. I've posted a couple of threads about the Discover IT card, but now it's for something more.

I want to apply for the Discover IT, Chase Freedom, or AMEX Everday. Apply for 2 our of the 3. How would you rank them?

1 year 3 months credit history, 3 CC's" Barclays $1200 limit, BoA Secured $300 limit, Capital One Platinum $500 limit. Total utilization should be less than 10% before applying, 8 inquiries in the last 12 months (4 auto). I can't seem to get my fico scores here when I applied, 666 CK and 687 Barclay's Free Fico (12/27/14 update).

Thank you in advanced.

Assuming your FICOs are similar to your FAKOs (who knows?), I think you have about a 75% chance on the Freedom. You're in the range of people who more often than not get accepted but sometimes only with a toy limit. Your one year of credit history will definitely help you with Chase. One thing that does introduce an element of uncertainty to the Freedom is that Chase does have an internal scoring method though known as the Card Acquisition Risk Score, and like a FAKO, it is not a true FICO score either. Sometimes people with strong FICO scores still struggle to get in with Chase because their CARS score isn't comparable to their FICOs.

Discover I think is about a 50/50 shot. I've seen people with less get approved, and just about as often I've seen people with more get denied. However, if you do get denied for an unsecured, individual account, I think it's extremely likely they'll offer you either a joint account or a secured account.

Amex Everyday is likely going to be the toughest. I think you have a 30% chance on that based on looking at scores alone. It often depends on your baddies with Amex. If the baddies are relatively recent and they happen to be collections or delinquent payments, Amex can be very hard to get in with.

Re: Few CC Apps

Thank you for your reply. I will probably apply for the Freedom first and ditch applying for the AMEX, although I have no baddies with AMEX at all, not even a previous relationship with them. Overall, I haven't made a late payment (ever) or have an account go to collections, so in that side I'm good.

For Discover, I've been getting this invitations, which are probably not usefull but they are the ones that gave me the idea of applying to the Discover It. They even have a fixed apr offered (10.99%) and not a range. Would that mean anything?

I also want to unsecure my $300 BoA secured card. I tried unsecuring it when it reached a year of history, but I was declined due to the very high utilization I had at that time (around 85-90% total). They told me to try again "in a few months". Do you think at the end of this month is a good time to apply again? I just want to unsecure it and get a CLI, if they don't want to then I just want my money back and I want to close the card. It's basically impossible not to max it out rapidly even if I just use it for fuel.

I don't know if the invitations means you're pre-approved or not, but from what I hear, Discover pre-approvals don't mean anything. Regardless, I applied for my Discover It card a year ago because I received the same invitation and was approved. My scores were a little higher than yours though. And you can give the unsecuring another try in a few months. Did you call in last time or did you go into a BofA branch?

Of course, I can't give you your chances for AMEX, but it'll help if you can get the EveryDay card sometime soon to get your member since date. Best of luck.

Re: Few CC Apps

I'd do either Discover and amex or Freedom and Amex. You're wasting two apps if you get Freedom and Discover IMO. They're essentially the same card.

I got the Freedom and ED last month and I LOVE them both!  I applied for the Freedom through their Prequal and I applied for Amex ED through CK (said I had a "Good" chance and I thought, yeah, haha, but gave it a shot and was amazed when it showed Congratulations!)

Re: Few CC Apps

Thank you all for your reply.

MOMTIMES, I've accessed the prequal pages from both Chase and Discover and qualify for both Freedom and It. I hope that does have some weight in them!
