Okay y'all, just wanted to share what I consider to be a small victory, and a step in the right direction.
While pursuing this site, I saw several posts about people being offered a Williams-Sonoma VISA card through the shopping cart trick. I was intrigued at the prospect of getting a Visa without a hard pull. So I decided to see if I was lucky enough to receive the offer. I created an account, and added a few things to the shopping cart. Upon checkout, I got excited for a minute when a pre-approval popped up, but it was only for the store card Although I do shop our local Williams-Sonoma, I don't shop there enough to justify a store card, so I closed out the browser (didn't quite have the willpower to click 'no thanks', or whatever the decline button says, so I just closed the browser). Are there any others where a real credit card is a possibility?
This is the first time in my life that I've declined a firm offer of credit! Man, was it difficult to not push 'accept'. I think it's a step in the right direction. Comenity doesn't blackball you from future offers if you don't accept one, do they? That would suck.

Great job! I dont think they do but being blackballed from Comenity might not be the worse thing to happenOne step at a time, next step is not to even tempt yourself. In the heat of the moment we often say wth, ill just see what happens and often times get that 30 scond remorse right after
Yeah, you're right about that!

Congrats on having restraint, and no, your fine with Comenity. if you go back later they may give you the same pop-up.
Yes, Comenity has other Visa/MC but if you didn't get a pop-up for WS you probably wouldn't for others either. They will end up being a HP if you take the offer
Thanks for the info! It's probably better that I didn't get the Visa offer...
The Visa's are usually a HP even if you get the shopping cart trick. There's also no guarantee that you will get the Visa card, you could end up being approved for the store card. If one already has store card with Comenity, adding a Visa seems to place you on a watch list and they are more sensitive to new accounts/inquiries and could start closing out your accounts.
You did well resisting the urge. And you are still eligible for SCT in the future if you find a card from them that suits you.

Hey Kjohn super congrats on accomplishing step one of the 12 step program! I know it's hard to say no to firm preapproved offers but you did it super congrats! Way to keep focused by telling yourself you really don't need it as you don't shop there enough good job Kjohn! 😉
Thanks GiJane, you're the best! That first step was a doozy!

Thank you for the information, Elktech! I didn't know they were more prone to closing accounts if you have one of their Visa cards, or that it still results in a HP (thanks you Tigers, as well, for that);very good information to have.
