Getting approved during dispute

I’ve searched this forum and haven’t been able to find more info about this subject so I’m not sure if this question has been answered already but I saw somewhere in this forum that if you app for a credit card while you have disputes open with the credit bureau(Equifax specifically) the application will ignore the disputed information and you have better chances of approval. I can’t even get approved for store cards because my paid collections are going to take a while to get deleted. I have significant income although my score isn’t the best but I have 7 years credit history. How true is this information?

Re: Getting approved during dispute

I’m estimating that my scores will be up there with yours maybe even in the 600’s by the time my cap1 secured card turns 6 months old around July. That’s also the time frame I have to wait to app for another cap1 card. If you don’t mind me asking what was your SL for the Qs1? Just trying to get an estimate on what mine could be if I do get approved.

They started me at $300
I agree, your scores will start to increase once you have reportings on your CR

Well at least the card allows you to get cli. I’m waiting patiently for all 3 bureaus to do what they have to do .

Re: Getting approved during dispute

Some of the CRA's will temporarily omit accounts in dispute depending on the nature of the dispute, the type of account in dispute and level of cooperation from the reporting CA they receive. I would say yes, it is potentially possible someone could have better approval odds if a dispute item is temporarily removed at the home of app.

However:
. You'd have to hope ALL collections are omitted and not just some. 5 collections showing instead of 6 won't help
. You'd have to hope all CRA's reporting the accounts temporarily omitted decide to do so and or that the lender you app only pulls a bureau that did remove the disputed items. If they pull EQ and it's clean but your TU is dirty and they backup pull them you'll have problems.

Honestly it's not worth it at all. Even if all these conditions are met, there's nothing to stop the lender from subsequently closing the new card you were able to sneak in during a dispute as soon as the accounts are re-inserted into your reports after the investigation/dispute is completed and your scores/profiles tank as a result. Add in the odds that you're much more likely to have a "consumer disputes account - investigation in progress" comment added to a collection on your report than having it temporarily disappear and it's a losing bet.

There are options you can take while waiting for paid collections to drop. Goodwill campaigns, HIPPA and others. Are they medical collections, charge offs, retail or what?

Re: Getting approved during dispute

I had one t-mobile collections acct through enhanced recovery which I paid directly to T-Mobile instead of the agency and they agreed to delete. Another was portfolio recovery assoc. for cap 1 which was paid in full. The third was Rushmore service center for first premier also paid in full. The only thing on my report not paid is my car loan which was charged off and has a balance of $5245. I sent out an email to cap 1 ceo a week ago haven’t heard anything but it updated to paid and I sent email to first premier ceo haven’t heard anything from them yet either. I reached out to T-Mobile exec office someone reached back out to me days ago but haven’t heard from them since.

Re: Getting approved during dispute

The other issue is some card companies will not approve a card with open disputes.... in addition to the possibility they decide to AA you or revoke your approval once the disputes reappear.... Unless its a secured card.. I would unfortunately wait ....

Re: Getting approved during dispute

I'd wait and bide your time while working on your goodwill campaign. You might end up with a thousand no's but at the same time the next response could always be a delete,to get you to stop contacting them if nothing else.

It sucks waiting for clean reports and improved scores but the payoff is worth it and is better then risking more negative reporting now. I wish I had waited another 5 months to apply for my post-rebuild cards & I didn't even get any denials but the terms and limits would have been vastly superior to what I got.

Re: Getting approved during dispute

I agree it makes sense to wait until my report is clean. I checked credit karma today and noticed my old cap one collection is no longer on TU or EQ so it’s a good sign I’m doing something right. I’ll wait until the bureaus are done doing their thing. But one more question. Say for instance I get all 3 baddies removed there’s no way future lenders can see anything negative in my report right? Only what’s showing as positive?
