Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

Edit: I just got a pre-approval offer for the BOFA Travel Rewards card with a 20K ($200) bonus for spending $500 in 3 months. This has got me thinking if I should apply for this instead of the Discover IT Miles? I have a BOFA checking account and the cash rewards card, but I'm not entirely sure how great the travel card is. Any opinions?

It's funny how close I am to my app spree day that I've been waiting for and all of a sudden seeing so many new opportunities!! D:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is T-16 days until my App Spree that I've been planning for the past 6 months. Pretty please help me to solidify the decisions I'm still wobbly about! Here we go:

Apping For (in order of greatest to least desired):

AMEX Blue Cash Everyday

Sallie Mae

Discover IT Miles

Chase AARP

BOFA Cash Rewards (CLI)

Closing:

Chase Amazon Visa

Car Care One

I'm worried about closing my two oldest cards. The thing is, I honestly don't use the Car Care One anymore now that I have reward CCs and I would like Chase AARP over the Chase Amazon for that 3% restaurants. Is this a bad idea?

Any advice for these apps in terms of order, sign-up bonuses, recons, etc would be much appreciated!

--My scores are in siggy and my AAoA is about 2 years. I will have 0 HPs from the past 12 months as of the big day. No baddies (anymore heehee thanks to GW Letters!)

No Venture, Venture one or QS on your list? Seems you might have better success with getting higher SLs with them. Just my humble opinion, of course.

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

Do either of those older cards you plan to close have AF's ??? If not, I'd keep um. Put um in the "sock drawer". If they're costing you money in AF's, than I'd close um after you've completed your spree and have all the cards you desire. Good luck !!!!!

Thanks for your reply! I've been battling with the prospect of the Venture and I know it's no AF for the first year, but I just don't want a card with an AF. I know I could PC, but I'm not interested in any of their other cards. However, this tempts me constantly LOL!

Thanks! No they don't have AFs. It's just really hard to justify having them when neither of them have provided any real juicy perks in the past couple years. Recently the Amazon Visa gave a 20 dollar credit for purchasing a 100 dollar Amazon GC which was cool, but that's the first time they've done anything like that for me since 2013.

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

Agree!  You need some Cap One luv!  Nothing from Citi?  Your scores are high enought for a good limit on Venture and you're in with Citi easy.  All the others are great!  Smiley Wink  I wanted a Care Credit & decided that makes you look like you need funds for animal/human emergencies.  I crossed that one off my list.  I think you're making a good choice there. I'd say good luck, but I don't think you need it.  Those scores are fantastic!

Shoo, what about the Venture One with no AF? IMO, It's a good card to have. I see many get 10k plus out of the gate.

Thanks Sandi! Unfortunately, Citi kinda hates me. And GAHHH about the Venture. The sole reason I'd want it is for the potentially GIMUNGOUS SL. Can't cave! Don't need!

These days I have heart palpitations every time I get an alert from MyFico thinking my scores have dropped a thousand points and just before I'm ready to app with them lol! I'm really excited but also ready to get this over with. When the cards are in my hand (or not, knock on wood), I'm cancelling the monitoring and going back to the FAKO, free report, life. I dunno :/ I really don't travel and aside from the bonus, it's only a 1.25% rewards card, right? I'm just not sure. I do know that apping gets you in some type of mood (like the addictive type) and I may very well try for that Venture while I'm on the app high. Who knows. For now though, I think I'm gonna hide from Capital One and its 3 pulls. Smiley Tongue

Thank you for this advice. You've got me thinking harder about my choices!

I hear ya!  Smiley Wink  Creditkarma is good for that.  They might take a day longer to report but it's free!  But then how do we know our Fico's?  I get chest pains when I'm waiting for the scores to come through!
