Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

OP I would app the AARP (I have it, I love it) before closing the Amazon and then roll the Amazon limit onto the AARP and close it. No harm to your score with closing the card because it will still report for ten years. You have a great plan, good luck!

Personal Credit? Check. Business Credit? Check.
Mission Accomplished.

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

If you're not using cards and they have no annual fee, just continue not using them. Sure they will still count towards your AAoA after being closed, but that's true if the issuer closes then for inactivity too. Put them in a box and forget about them. They are doing you more good than harm imo.

It is T-16 days until my App Spree that I've been planning for the past 6 months. Pretty please help me to solidify the decisions I'm still wobbly about! Here we go:

Apping For (in order of greatest to least desired):

AMEX Blue Cash Everyday

Sallie Mae

Discover IT Miles

Chase AARP

BOFA Cash Rewards (CLI)

Closing:

Chase Amazon Visa

Car Care One

I'm worried about closing my two oldest cards. The thing is, I honestly don't use the Car Care One anymore now that I have reward CCs and I would like Chase AARP over the Chase Amazon for that 3% restaurants. Is this a bad idea?

Any advice for these apps in terms of order, sign-up bonuses, recons, etc would be much appreciated!

--My scores are in siggy and my AAoA is about 2 years. I will have 0 HPs from the past 12 months as of the big day. No baddies (anymore heehee thanks to GW Letters!)

Why are you getting the Discover it Miles if you don't travel? BTW, did you sign up you Discover it card for the 12-months of double cash back rewards promo?

Mostly because I LOVE Discover and it seems like though this is a "travel" card, it works more like a CB rewards card that will offer me 3% for a year. Thanks, I'm already signed up! That double CB promo definitely made me rethink the miles card, but evenso, the 3% for a year is better than 2% for a year (not counting when rotating categories are 10% Smiley Tongue)

Also, the allure of a new card that may turn more "travelly" in the future kinda makes me think that when I do get to a point in my life (in a couple years when I'm mid-20s) when I'm ready to be more of a traveller, I'll be starting out with a good basic card. You never know what Discover will surprise you with!

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

Can you PC the Chase Amazon Card to an AARP? That might save you an app. Or you can app the AARP and PC the Chase Amazon to a Chase Freedom and set yourself up for getting a CSP later down the road when you're "more travelly"

Hmmmm I didn't think about doing that. It sounds really strategic. If I PC the Amazon to a Freedom, do you know if I would get their current signup bonus?

edit: No I can't PC Amazon to AARP. I asked through SM a few weeks ago Smiley Sad

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

The aarp is it good companion card to any card that is just for miles. When you're away from home eat a lot of restaurants, its 3 percent all the time. when you're at home driving in circles and a quick bite its 3 percent on both of those as well. it has a good blend of perks that only the highest teir cards to offer I know I cant get.

Re: Guide Me, Oh Wise Ones!

Edited my original post with:

I just got a pre-approval offer for the BOFA Travel Rewards card with a 20K ($200) bonus for spending $500 in 3 months. This has got me thinking if I should apply for this instead of the Discover IT Miles? I have a BOFA checking account and the cash rewards card, but I'm not entirely sure how great the travel card is. Any opinions?

I'm so confuuuuused nowww! I just wanna get the bestestest rewards! OTL

Agree!  You need some Cap One luv!  Nothing from Citi?  Your scores are high enought for a good limit on Venture and you're in with Citi easy.  All the others are great!  Smiley Wink  I wanted a Care Credit & decided that makes you look like you need funds for animal/human emergencies.  I crossed that one off my list.  I think you're making a good choice there. I'd say good luck, but I don't think you need it.  Those scores are fantastic!

Thanks Sandi! Unfortunately, Citi kinda hates me. And GAHHH about the Venture. The sole reason I'd want it is for the potentially GIMUNGOUS SL. Can't cave! Don't need!

These days I have heart palpitations every time I get an alert from MyFico thinking my scores have dropped a thousand points and just before I'm ready to app with them lol! I'm really excited but also ready to get this over with. When the cards are in my hand (or not, knock on wood), I'm cancelling the monitoring and going back to the FAKO, free report, life.
