Sorry for starting a new thread about Amex 3x CLI, as I know there is a huge discussion about this topic. I searched through quite a few pages of people sharing their success, but couldn't find an answer to this.
So today is my 61st day of my BCE account being open, and went for the 3x CLI (500 -> 1500), but they countered with 1000. I really want the full 3x, so what happens if I decline? When can I apply for it again?
Thanks for the help!
Good question. I had my 3x CLI the other day also from Amex. I tired for less than 2x and was asked for IV. I don't feel like sending anything in, so I immediately tried again for 34.5K and was immediately approved for the 9k bump to that. As far as the amount that is being counter offered to you, it might have to do with your credit profile. If they already counter offered, I don't think you'd get anything higher the next time you try unless your scores are better, util down, and etc. Maybe another member can chime in and see if your eligible to request another CLI again if you declined and not have to wait 181 days. Good luck!

I would personally just accept it which will reset your clock and in 6 months you can request a 3X CLI for $3k.
If you decline it, chances are it would take you at least a period of months to change your profile and raise your score enough to make a difference in what they offer you... so you could end up waiting 3-4 months for example for another $500. Then you'll have that $1500 limit for another 6 months. Basically by declining it, you're looking at next September/October before you can acquire a > $1500 line of credit, where if you accept what they offered you now you have a chance for a $3k credit line, twice the $1500, by the end of May.
Some very valid points! I chatted with a rep about it, and they told me to call the Credit Increase dep. I just got off the phone with them, and they said that my score was 694, and reason for denial was too many inquiries in the last 12 months(I just started my credit building journey in March), and length of time with Amex. So I asked if they could still give me the counter offer, and thankfully, they did. So six month wait starts today. 3000 here I come! Thanks again for the advice, guys!
Congrats, maybe you will get an autoCLI before the 6 months, that you can 3X that.
Good luck.

Well played. You made the best decision both for now and also 6 months from now you'll be happy to be shooting for a 3X CLI against $1k instead of $500.
