So, I applied for an HSBC platinum rewards MC back on 11/15. I never even received a confirmation email of the application going through. I called a couple days later to make sure it did and was told it was pending. I received a HP on 11/17. Called again, said it was pending. I called the last time on 11/24 and was told it was denied because' fraud auto denied me'. I never got a request for verifying dox or anything. Why would they pull credit just to deny me 8 days later for failure to verify identity? Doesn't make much sense. I've called fraud, they said underwriting pulls the credit. I call underwriting they blame fraud department. I keep getting bounced around. I've put in two calls for managers to call me back and it's been several days with no calls. I was also given the 'customer relations' phone number and no one ever picks up it is almost like an answering service. They say to leave a msg and someone will get back to me. Again.. no one calls. At this point, I just want the HP removed if they didn't even look at my credit or use it as a reason to deny me. I was told I passed the initial public record questions so it really does not make sense that they couldn't verify my identity. IF they couldn't.. why not call me or ask me for dox? So frustrating.
Yeah their process is utterly frustrating. I appied for cash rewards on 22nd nov . Did not even receive confirmation email or app id nothing. No hp was pulled. My eq was unlocked . I called after few days and was told that my app is in queue with security but initially they couldnt even find my app. I realised that i might not have received email confirmation because i had frozen ex at the time i applied. So i wanted to experiment. Today i unfroze my ex and applied for their platinumn rewards card and received email confirmation with application id and all just few minutes later. Lets see how this experiment called HSBC goes. I think you should write a letter or email or something asking them to remove hp or verify your identity. at least it will be there as a written record if you need to use it for filing complaint later.
They usually pull just EQ.

Yes, but they also SP EX. When I app'd for the Cash Rewards they soft pulled EX for ID questions. I have all 3 CRAs locked with service directly with them, I unlocked EX before app'ing and then relocked it after the app.
And here's where the OP got screwed or got bad information: When I called in I was told security had my app for review and they transferred me there. Rep asked a few security/ID questions and then said that he saw my EQ was frozen. I told him No, I had it locked with my EQ service and would log in and unlock while we spoke, did so and told the rep EQ was unlocked. Then he said he also needed my EX unlocked, so I logged in & unlocked it. Then I said that I thought being able to unlock EQ & EX while on the phone with him was pretty good Identity verification. The rep agreed and said he would release the app to underwriting, who would HP EQ. I left both unlocked and the next day when I saw the HSBC HP on EQ I locked both reports again. A day or so later I got the approval email.
So again, the process I was told was that underwriting will not get the app & do a EQ HP until the app has been approved and released by security.
