No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I would try for either a Navy Federal Card (anyone can join now) or a Synchrony bank card. They have both been known to be accepting of lower scores and limits, and are generous with the credit lines (NFCU especially!).
NFCU Route:
1. Join San Diego Navy League, costs $25 but will allow you to join NFCU.
2. Apply for membership by emailing in application, see thread or NFCU website.
3. Apply for your choice of NFCU card would not reccomend Flagship card.
4. Enjoy your limit if approved.
Synchrony bank route:
1. Decide which of their many card piques your interests.
2. Apply and likely be approved.
My signature has the cards I have with Synchrony but the most popular are the Amazon.com store card, and my favorite the Stash Hotel Visa. If you are looking for a card you can use everywhere then go with the Stash Visa. The nice thing about Synchrony is they allow credit limit increases with only a soft pull so it not as dissapointing if you get declined. My Lowe's store card was instantly approved for $1,500 but I called right after approval and they raised it to $10k!
It can take up to 48 hours, but you can apply online as well. They will likely contact you for verification so make sure you actually join the Navy League, I have attached a screenshot of the options you would select when you click "Become a member" this is of course assuming you are not otherwise eligible to join through a normal route.

Okay, great thanks for your advice! Enjoy your day ☺️
No problem post an update if you decide to go on a spree!
Have you tried SP's for your current cards to see if you can get CLI's? I would also try a credit union. I have Penfed, never tried NFCU, but they have awesome limits on cards. Also, have you tried any pre-qual's for CC's? I tired Amex when my scores were around 650 and shockingly they found some I may be qualified for. I app-ed and was approved. Also try any Syncrony or Comenity cards. Good luck!

I have a couple questions. After I join the San Diego Navy League. Would that membership be good for both credit and checking? Are we eligible for car loans or whatever else they offer or is it simply for credit cards? And the last question. Would we need to keep the San Diego Navy League membership after the first year? Thanks in advance!
ehuang, there are whole threads on here dedicated to this process. But yes once you join you are eligible for EVERY product that Navy Federal offers.
