I can't seem to get a CLI from Hilton Amex to save my life. I have a few cards with limits over $10K , my Amex gold is at $5K and can't get anything from this Amex Hilton. Stuck at $1000. Is it best to talk to someone or just hit the CLI button?
I am just now starting to really use this card but have just started this year. I've had the card about 7 years. It's just not a primary used card. How often and how long would I have to continue to use this card to get increases? I tried to use it once a month at a grocery store or fast food stop but I don't think Amex is falling for that. Scores in the 670 range.
Probably because your scores are in 670 range
That's indicative of either negatives or very high utilization (or both). Amex isn't a fan of either.
When you apply and you're denied, you always get a letter stating why.
Some lenders circle around the drain, Amex doesn't. Whatever they spelled, that's the reason
Talking to anyone won't help you, it's algorithm driven.
Thanks for the info. It's util....no negs. OK...I'll wait for the letter because I got the 7-10 day message again.

I just requested a CLI for my BCP 2 days ago and Ive had this card for 6 months started at 1k and now 12k my scores were 665 and 663 and a 27% utilation overall no negatives. Additionally also got a CLI increase on my BankAericard (2 years) from 1.5k to 5k about a week ago same score.
Just got my reply from Amex. Decision is based on "One or more of your Amex Cards currently has a spending limit".
What does that mean and how does that help me with my Hilton card?

@ccpat I would imagine they are referring to the limit you noted upthread, "My Amex gold is at $5K." The Amex Gold is a charge card and traditionally has NPSL. If Amex put a limit on the Gold card there must have been something about your account or credit profile they did not like. I would assume you received notification when that hard limit of $5K was imposed? I would think as long as there is a hard limit on your Gold card you will be precluded from any credit line increases on any Amex accounts.
Just making sure i read this correctly, $5K credit limit on a charge card? (Or) did you mean POT of $5K?

When a AMEX charge card (your gold card in this case) has a spending limit that means AMEX isn't happy with you. You need to find out why the gold card has a 5k spending limit and work to resolve that. As someone noted upthread AMEX charge cards are supposed to be No Preset Spending Limit (NPSL). Once the spending limit is taken off you might still need to wait some time before AMEX approves you for a CLI or another card.

I believe OP meant a $5k limit on their charge card, yes. While charge cards are indeed NPSL, sometimes, for whatever reason (usually when one does something Amex doesn't like), they can impose a "hard" limit on a charge card that can remain indefinitely.
