I had a relapse, but was able to fix things

So, I have kept my BBVA checking and savings accounts open just to improve my chances of getting a card with them and to actually see my preapprovals (I don't know if they offer this for non-customers). I check my BBVA pqual whenever my EX or Vantage scores increase, or my util decreases. Pqual got up to around $5100 IIRC. I told myself that I'd apply later this year when my 7 cards from last year's app spree aged to 1 yr or so. Plus, I wanted to time it so that I make the most of the 0% intro rate.

My EX increased overnight, which is when I checked my pqual. $7500! After about an hour of debating and reading this forum for pqual odds, and seeing what other CC I pqual for, I applied, hands literally sweating LOL. "Unfortunately we need to manually review your application..." GRRR! Instant regret. I was seriously bummed out for the rest of the night. Woke up upset, too. But, I called to check the status of the app and asked if I could rescind my app. I could, and I did!! Sooo happy!

I was declined by BBT last year when you guys were getting your 3 cards. I've checked a few times since then, even a few months ago. But, today, I have 3 approvals! I was so tempted to apply with them or PenFed (who has my score in the 760s!). But, I hardly use the cards that I have now. I don't think that I need any extra util padding. I'm just addicted to the credit...that I don't---use. LOL I need help.

Good job to resist the thirst. If you are good with what you already have, I suggest you apply when in need. It will ensure you maximize the SUB, HP, and 0% APR offer.

I also see a few that have strong profiles and not get approved during these rough times, so just know that if you are ever in need, BBVA is just a pull away.

Didn't I read posts by you wanting to buy a house soon?

Focus on the big things, a mortgage is far more important than a shiny piece of plastic that you admit you won't use.

Know yourself, if you know seeing preapprovals tempts you into applying then STOP checking them at least until you finalize a potential mortgage.

I totally feel you lol. The worst part is that you get caught up in the anticipation of it and then once you apply, the excitement wears off quickly. Life was simpler when I didn't think about my credit so much.
